With a historic 16-time World title wins, John Cena – alongside Ric Flair – sits at the top of the list of most World championship reigns in WWE. He has won every title in the promotion – that to multiple times – except one. He never got to hold the Intercontinental Championship around his shoulders throughout his WWE career.
This is the reason he isn’t a Grand Slam champion yet, despite having an illustrious career. Recently, this subject has become a hot topic of discussion among the fans. They want him to become a Grand Slam Champion and add another accolade to his WWE resume.

Gunther is the WWE Intercontinental Champion right now. On June 10, 2022 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, he beat Ricochet to claim his first IC title reign. No superstar has been able to take the title away from him ever since, thus making him the longest IC title holder of the modern era.
Considering the fact that The Hustle, loyalty, and Respect Soldier is missing an IC reign to add a Grand Slam accolade to his outstanding resume. Fans are hoping he would challenge ‘The Ring General’ for the title in the near future.

‘The Chain Gang Soldier’ is a part-time wrestler now, he rarely makes appearances in the WWE. So Cena vs Gunther may be a long shot. But it is still a top-notch idea that WWE can capitalize on. Plus, fans are more than eager to see the two juggernauts collide inside the ropes.

The WWE Universe believes Cena doesn’t necessarily need to have IC win to boost his WWE resume, but it would hurt to have one.
He don't need to have it. But that would help Gunther to move up to world champion top spot if he lose the ic title though. Who better to beat him than cena.

Hear me out…
An "injury" angle in a match where Gunther drops it to Cena; but Cena has to go through HELL just to get the win.
It ends by Gunther passing out from the STF(U) at Survivor Series.
Give Gunther a few months to "recover" and return at the Rumble and wins it.

It would be interesting if John was the 1 who dethrones Gunther at the ppv after he beats the HTM record. John does open challenge on raw & sheamus answers & beats John. Than later that night Gunther beats cena up so much that it causes cena to be gone until mania or whenever.

Cena last appeared in a match at WrestleMania Goes Hollywood against the reigning United States Champion Austin Theory. It was a PLE kickoff match that saw him in a losing effort to the ‘A-Town Down’. It would be interesting to see when he returns to WWE next.
