Cody Rhodes has shown his respect for other wrestling stars in several interviews. Recently, he opened up about his thoughts related to Sami Zayn. The two wrestlers haven’t had lots of interaction on-screen. However, it looks like Rhodes still found enough good things about Zayn to appreciate him as a talent. In fact, he even wanted to have a match with him.

There was a time when WWE was trying to make the two wrestlers stand in the squared circle as competitors. Even though Rhodes specifically mention which event was going to hold such a matchup, he provided us with additional details to remap what this alternate reality could’ve looked like.

For now, the two WWE stars appear to be on the same side. This is because both of them have a thing against Roman Reigns. However, the wrestling promotion originally had some other plans in store for them. While talking to Fightful recently, Rhodes revealed how highly he thinks of Zayn and how he wanted WWE to go through with their plan to make the two wrestlers ‘opponents’.

The American Nightmare began by telling the interviewer, “It was being discussed around us. Why don’t we discuss it amongst us. Bruce Prichard, Ed Kosky, Triple H, they all had the idea to put us in the ring together at Barclays Center.” Then, the 38-year-old also added, “Sami is amazing. I don’t want to say it and throw it away. He is incredibly special. What he was doing is incredibly special. He was pulling a wagon. I wanted to be there to match him and, hopefully, also be incredibly special.

According to the Rhodes the match could’ve happened on Monday Night Raw 02/13, just five days before the Elimination Chamber. So, even though the two came face-to-face at Barclays Center that night, it was in harmony, as Rhodes wished Zayn to finish his story on 18th February 2023 in his hometown.

Both Rhode and Zayn were hot favorites heading into WrestleMania season and were seen as the ones to dethrone Roman Reigns.

It’s wholesome to see other wrestlers looking out for each other. Whether it is through words or actions. This interview with Fightful isn’t the only instance that Rhodes has looked out for his fellow wrestler.

On the Monday Night Raw episode earlier this year, Sami Zayn was facing off Jimmy Uso in a solo match. The match had the viewers on the edge of their seats. By the end, the Canadian-born wrestler was able to pin his former teammate by fair means. However, before he could celebrate fully, he was attacked by Jey Uso with a superkick. Right when Jey was dragging him to the ring for a beat down, Cody Rhodes showed up.

The babyface saved his potential opponent from a brutal beat down at the hands of The Bloodline members. In untelevised footage that WWE posted, fans even saw an extended interaction between the two stars, which was wholesome, to say the least. Cody Rhodes extended his hand out to the victorious wrestler and the two shared a hug.
