Without a doubt, Dwayne Johnson is one of the most bankable names in Hollywood. However, his last couple of films haven’t done well at the box office. Johnson always has a lot going on in his life. According to a new report, The Hollywood mogul is set to reprise his role in the franchise that produced his star vehicle film years ago. The franchise in question is none other than The Mummy.

Johnson entered Hollywood by making his film debut in The Mummy Returns in 2001 after switching to a part-time wrestling career. His acting took a shine to the fans as he further starred in the spinoff film, The Scorpion King. That said, Johnson is seemingly going to play the part of “Mathayus” once again.

In 2017, Universal Pictures attempted to revive The Mummy film series by casting Tom Cruise in the title role. However, the film received little attention and bombed at the box office. As a result, Universal Pictures’ attempt to promote monster films in the “Dark Universe” miserably failed.  

New reports indicate that Universal Pictures is preparing to revert to its old look by introducing a whole new installment of The Mummy. According to GFR, Dwayne Johnson is on board to reprise his role as the Scorpion King. It will be interesting to see Johnson take up the role again, as he made his mark in Hollywood as The Scorpion King. 

Furthermore, the reboot of the film will also reportedly see Rachel Weisz, Oded Fehr, and John Hannah reprising their respective roles. At this point, it is unknown if Brendan Fraser will reprise the role of Rick O’Connell. But he had previously expressed his willingness to return to the franchise if the time was right.

Nevertheless, we will have to wait and see how long it takes for the film to go from being in talks to being in production. Meanwhile, Johnson could don another popular role of his in an upcoming film.

The 51-year-old star recently made his return to the Fast & Furious franchise by appearing during the post-credits of the film. Johnson’s return to the Vin Diesel-starrer franchise has opened the doors to another spinoff featuring the rivalry between Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Reyes (Jason Momoa). 

As the F&F spinoff film is in talks, Johnson is set to appear in a live-action remake of Disney’s Moana. The film is confirmed to be released on June 27, 2025. Johnson, who played the role of Maui, will once again take up the role of the antagonist.
