The recent news of the merger between UFC and WWE is the talk of the town. The coming together of two big brands in the world of combat sports has naturally garnered a lot of attention. Endeavor Group has clinched what would be remembered as a landmark deal, leaving behind many potential buyers that were mentioned, including Dwayne Johnson.

He was considered a frontrunner in the race to buy WWE, having already purchased the XFL from Vince McMahon. And the passion with which Johnson talked about his previous employers strongly hinted at an interest.

He talked about the trait that potential buyers should definitely have in interaction with CNBC in January. The Great One said, “So I think with the new owners, if there are new owners and acquirers that are going to come in. I think they have to share that same passion that Vince has for the company and for the world of pro wrestling which isn’t always easy to do.”

“As you guys know with a company like this that has been so incredibly successful over the years, the sale and acquisition can be very complicated.Added the 10-time WWE champion.

The People’s Champ gained a worldwide fandom through his time with the Stamford-based promotion. It wouldn’t have surprised the fans if he would have ended up as the owner of the company. But in the end, it was the Ari Emanuel-headed Endeavor group that persisted in a long list of potential buyers.

From Disney to Fox to the Saudi-backed Public Investment Fund, all were mentioned in the probable list of suitors. Johnson’s time in the business further raised the hopes of the masses with regard to his ending up at the helm of WWE.

However, it was his buying the rights of XFL from none other than McMahon that made many believe his success in acquiring the wrestling juggernaut.

The Football competition saw a failed attempt at revamping in 2020 majorly due to the onset of the global pandemic.

XFL was looking for new suitors and on came Johnson along with his partners to be the new owners. He co-owns the league along with Dani Garcia and Gerry Cardinale of Redbird Capital.

It started its operation in February and is currently in motion with its finals scheduled to take place on May 13.

Having served as an able co-owner of XFL many would have been rooting for Dwayne Johnson to purchase WWE as well. But as fate would have it, the global wrestling phenomenon got acquired by another conglomerate. Nevertheless, Johnson would always remain a major part of WWE’s success over the years.
