After Losing Out on $218 Million Role to Him, Dwayne Johnson Could Not Fathom Being Compared to Tom Cruise on Film Set

Dwayne Johnson and Tom Cruise are two of the biggest names in the Hollywood industry. The general audience primarily knows both actors for giving out blockbuster movies especially in the action genre. There is no denying that both stars have carved out the perfect formula to provide successful ventures.

That being said, once someone compared Johnson to Cruise on a set while filming an action movie. But the wrestler-turned-actor refused to be compared to The Mission Impossible star. Let’s dive deep and find out why ‘The Great One’ did so.

Dwayne Johnson didn’t like being compared to Tom Cruise

Anyone would feel honored to be compared to the legendary actor Tom Cruise. But Johnson is not one of them. In 2017, he share an Instagram post on his feed stating that while filming for his movie 2018 Rampage, one of his producers told him that he ran like the Top Gun star.

But according to ‘The Brahman Bull’, there is no similarity in their respective running styles. He mentioned that Cruise “runs like 6 o’clock. Straight up and down, arms tight to the body like an offensive player running for the end zone.” Whereas he has “the run of a defensive headhunter. Forward lean, stride long, arms open and pumping.”

Cruise’s running style has been a subject of discussion a lot over the past years. Johnson chimed in and stated his version of what makes The Mummy actor’s run so unique and apart from his running style. This message might be interpreted as a jibe at Cruise who stole a 218 million-dollar role from him almost a decade ago.

Johnson wanted to be the protagonist in the 2012 movie, Jack Reacher

During a live Facebook Q&A in 2020, Johnson made a revelation that he wanted to be in the lead role in the 2012 action/thriller movie, Jack Reacher, which grossed over 218 million at the box office. He mentioned he was an ideal choice to feature in the movie and was hoping to be a part of it.

But the filmmakers of the movie chose Cruise instead of him to be the lead actor. ‘The People’s Champion’ surely felt upset over it as he really wanted that role. Nevertheless, he has been a part of some incredible action movies in the past and he will be part of many amazing movies to come.
