In August 2020, Dwayne Johnson joined hands with Danny Garcia and RedBird Capital Partners to purchase Vince McMahon’s floundering business venture, The XFL. The NFL-esque football league, however, did not produce the desired result in its first season after its acquisition. In fact, the “League of Opportunity” reportedly cost Johnson a whopping $60M loss in its first season. Nonetheless, XFL completed its first season and Dwayne Johnson has a “superpower” that is expected to boost the success of the company in the future.

For the next season, the league is reportedly projected $100M in revenue, per people linked with the finances of XFL. We should note that XFL is seemingly paid $20M per season by ESPN. In addition, the league has reportedly signed sponsorships with brands such as Under Armour and Progressive. So, what is Dwayne Johnson’s superpower?

While speaking with Forbes, the interviewer asked Dwayne Johnson what his superpower is that would get XFL through multiple seasons. Johnson stated that he is relying on “storytelling” to add more meaning to his league. While the Hollywood star admitted that the league is well-capitalized, he intends to add storytelling to show the world how the players matter.

Johnson also acknowledged the fact that the players come from different levels of society. But at the end of the day, they are hustling just to put food on the table for their families. Although they do not make $50M per season, Johnson aspires to bring more focus to their struggle through storytelling.

Taking to Instagram, Johnson posted a clip from his interview with Forbes. He said, “The superpower here, I believe is story telling. So, we have surrounded ourselves with the capital, the great minds in terms of business. For me the superpower is the storytelling. And what I mean by that, to drill down a little bit more into that, is storytelling, showing the world how these players matter. Even though they may not be big stars, they may not be making $50M but they matter. They are working their asses off. Playing the game they love, putting food on the table for their family. They matter in a way to me that makes them more relatable to our audience and our fanbase.”

Despite losing a significant amount of money from XFL, Dwayne Johnson is enjoying the fruits of success from his Tequilla company

In 2020, not only did Dwayne Johnson buy XFL from Vince McMahon, but he also launched his tequila company, Teremana Tequila. In fact, Johnson saved Applebee’s from going shut during the pandemic by allowing them to sell his tequila.

2023 marks the third year of continued success for Teremana Tequila. Dwayne Johnson recently took to Instagram to celebrate crossing one million cases of Teremana annual sales.
