After His Unfortunate End in F9, Here Is a Fool-Proof Way John Cena Could Make His Surprise Return in the Sequel

The Fast & Furious franchise has been a fan favorite since its debut in 2001. After spanning 9 sequels and one spin-off it is one of the oldest franchises in Hollywood. Being the oldest franchise means that a lot of actors have been a part of it. This includes WWE stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Cena. It also means a lot of actors have left the franchise due to various reasons. Something similar happened with John Cena. But, there is a way that he could come back to the franchise. John Cena as Jakob Toretto

We first saw John Cena in the ninth installment of the franchise, F9: The Fast Saga. In this movie, he plays Jakob Toretto who is the brother of Dom Toretto played by Vin Diesel. In this installment we see Cena play the role of a highly skilled assassin and Diesel sets out with his team to stop him. However, Cena’s character has a change of heart by the end and is forgiven by his elder brother. We then see Jakob head off to the horizon in Dom’s car as he is wanted in many countries for his crimes.

Cut to Fast X, the next installment in the franchise. In this installment, we see a different arc for the character. In this movie, he tries to be a part of the family and supports his elder brother. But things take an unfortunate turn for the character. During the epic climax of the movie, we see Jakob rescuing Dom’s son. Jakob was tasked with keeping Dom’s son safe, however, due to some circumstances he ended up losing him. As the Toretto brothers were outnumbered by the villainous Dante Reyes (played by Jason Momoa) and his men, Jakob decided to make the ultimate sacrifice.

His car was full of explosives, so he decided to pull a maneuver that would result in an explosion and take out most of Reyes’ henchmen. His plan works but unfortunately, he loses his life.

John Cena was always grateful for the love fans showed for his character. But considering the character’s end, a lot of fans could not believe that such an impactful character had such a short time with the franchise. However, there is a way John Cena’s character could make his return to the franchise. And the secret was revealed in the spin-off movie Hobbs and Shaw.

How can John Cena come back?

In the spin-off Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw faced a formidable foe. Idris Alba plays the role of Brixton Lore, who happens to be the primary antagonist of the movie. Lore was a former MI6 agent who faced critical injuries in action. However, he was revived and brought back to life by an organization called Eteon. He was cybernetically enhanced and turned into a cyborg. Although the spin-off is not considered canon yet, this could be the key to bringing back Jakob Toretto in the next installment.

A similar technology can be seen in the Fast X movie. At the Black site prison, a laser can be seen which can instantly heal wounds. It could be a possibility that Jakob Toretto’s former employers want him back in action and will use this technology on him. Whether this technology will have mind-altering capabilities is still unsure.

If he does return the spin-off way, will he turn into an evil cyborg like Brixton Lore? A lot of questions are there and only time will answer them.
