The pro wrestling world was stunned last year in May as reports emerged of two prominent female superstars leaving the WWE. While not much was revealed then about Sasha Banks and Naomi’s departure from the promotion in May 2022, speculations ran rife. Slowly, the facts emerged as the two disgruntled superstars severed their ties and forged a new bond with rival promotions.

Naomi, who now goes by her screen name Trinity at Impact Wrestling, spoke about the exit at length during a chat. The Anoa’i family member recalled the incident and how it impacted her life thereafter.

The two superstars were tag team champions at the time of the walkout. Quite naturally, this led to outsiders speculating about a fallout between the talents and the WWE. It is not common for incumbent champions to just sever ties. “There was a lot that happened,” Naomi told the New York Post in an exclusive chat.

The 35-year-old star said she backs her decision to this day. “There was a lot that was said that ultimately led to me being put in a position and feeling like that was the best for me and what I needed to do,” Naomi said.

“Nobody understands the magnitude of what happened and what really went on and why we feel the way we feel,” the inaugural FCW Divas Champion added. Earlier, she had termed the saga as the lowest point in her life.

The Impact Wrestling star now hopes that fans can see through the drama that ensued after her departure and feel her love for wrestling. While it took her a little longer than Sasha Banks- who now plies her trade at NJPW as Mercedes Mone- Naomi made her Impact debut on April 28.

In a few months, she had emerged as the prime challenger from the promotion’s current Knockouts World Champion Deonna Purrazzo. The two will lock horns at Slammiversary on July 15. As per reports, Impact has announced this match as their main event.

While Naomi has managed to get herself back in the thick of things, the scenario was very different a few months ago.

The roster was indifferent to her plight, alleges the former WWE star

The 35-year-old was with the WWE for 14 years before exiting the promotion. She met and worked with many talents, but most of them deserted her after her departure.

Naomi said apart from two female superstars, no one from the WWE roster cared to check in on her. “Other than Tamina, Bayley checking in on us regularly, that was it. We just had each other going through that,” she said.

This made her realize the value of her friendship with Sasha Banks. She said after all that they have been through in the past; it bolstered their bond.

“It just goes to show how real our friendship is and how real all of this is,” Naomi said. On the other hand, Banks too has been supportive of her friend. She even flew all the way from Japan to be there in person during Naomi’s Impact debut.

For now, her fans would hope that a victory for her against Purrazzo, which would lend credence to her status as a big event player and emulate the success she had in the WWE.
