Home/WWE

No matter what he does, CM Punk barely fails to catch eyeballs, be it positive or negative. Every time The Devil steps on, he stirs the WWE Universe in a way no one else can. After a short hiatus due to a recent triceps injury, Punk made his high-flying return on Raw last week to a massive pop. On top, his electrifying promo with Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins instantly rising to the worldwide trend perfectly adorned the night. That said, wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer has a more critical view of the segment. He, to some extent, resisted giving the whole credit to CM Punk alone for it and made it look like a byproduct of Knicks & Celtics’ NBA Games instead.

Dave Meltzer downplayed CM Punk’s high-rated Raw promo with an unpopular theory

WWE Raw produced a mammoth commercial success this week. The Chicago protagonist alongside The Scotsman and the WWE World Heavyweight Champion partook in a very un-WWE promo that has largely been seen as non-scripted. The heated exchanges of words continued to have fans talking. While on one side, it pulled in some controversies for the raw display of rage and emotion through obscene words; the perfection reflected in every performer impressed the overall fanbase, making it go on-trend in seconds.

To dig out the reason for this huge draw, Dave Meltzer talked about the significance of an NBA event’s halftime overlapping with the Raw segment. The New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics faced off in a regular NBA season while the WWE show was on air. Giving a weird reference to that behind the rating success of Punk’s promo, Meltzer noted,It was also halftime of the Basketball game, that played a small part in it, a bigger part in it, Punk was on the show doing a promo and at 9 pm that was the time when people tune in to Raw.”

While the reality of this theory is subject to question, the epic success of the intense CM Punk promo is a documented truth. Drew Mclntyre recently added new information to this promo, confirming the widely perceived rumor as true.

Drew Mclntyre exposed a reality behind WWE’s recent hit Raw promo

Mclntyre exposed the truth of the controversial promo in a candid chat with Torg and Elliot. The Scotsman noted whatever happened between him, Punk and Rollins on Monday Night, was nothing but a loose outline and a far cry from what had originally been scripted.

He deemed it as a product of raw reflection of their real life heat and hostility toward each other and how flawlessly they staged it without the filtration. Because, despite the strong existence of the PG rules, Mclntyre sees no sense in writing every emotion down and then disgorging it to the live audience.
