WATCH: After Years of 2K Wrestling Games, Here’s John Cena’s Foray Into Mortal Kombat 1

After becoming a WWE superstar, John Cena quickly became a mainstay in the entertainment industry. While he is known for his numerous movies and TV shows, fans know and love him, particularly for his Peacemaker character. While he has earned a spot on the famous WWE 2K video games, The Leader of the Cenation has now become a part of another video game franchise, Mortal Kombat.

The fighting game franchise now has a new addition. NetherRealm studios, who are behind the famous action game franchise, had announced earlier that Cena’s Peacemaker will be making its way to the death tournament as a part of the game’s DLC. However, fans were left surprised as a few noticed that the 46-year-old star would also be voicing the character in the game.

The game tells the story of characters from different realms who are pitted against each other for a death match. Winning these fights is the only way to save their worlds. This entry happens to be a reboot of the original story and was released on September 14, 2023. The DLC pack was announced in October of 2023. Along with DC’s Peacemaker, Invincible’s Omniman and The Boys’ Homelander are also a part of the Kombat Pack 1.

As stated earlier, one character of John Cena that stood out amongst the fans was his role as The Peacemaker. While Cena is known to be the babyface during his time at WWE, this character of his is quite the opposite of it.

Who is The Peacemaker played by John Cena

Born Christopher Smith, the character is portrayed as a mentally deranged vigilante who can go to any extent to preserve peace. Young Smith was raised by his father to be a killing machine. Even though growing up was a bit traumatizing for him, he found solace in his brother and their love for music. However, an event in which his brother suffered an unexpected demise pushed him to go into state which affected his mental health and led to his animosity towards his father. Cena’s Peacemaker was first seen in the 2022 reboot of the DC movie Suicide Squad.

Donning a bright-colored suit and a chrome helmet, he was part of the second Task Force X strike team which was formed by the DC’s Amanda Waller. Along with other characters such as Ric Flag and Bloodsport, he was sent to the island of Corto Maltese to destroy a Nazi-built research facility called Jotunheim and take care of all the pieces of evidence of Project Starfish. However, following the events of the movie, a spin-off series was green-lit to carry forward the story of this vigilante.
