The WWE 2k24 has instantly become the hype of the internet right now. The new year always sends the WWE Universe into a frenzy to virtually wrestle in the WWE arena themselves instead of just being a spectator. Credit for this goes to the efficient marketing strategy of 2k. But, Dwayne Johnson, Brock Lesnar, and many more directly influence this hype as well.

It is often said to not judge a book by its cover. However, covers do matter in the real world, especially in the realm of video games. WWE is known for creating elaborate posters and visuals for its PLEs. Naturally, 2k would like to keep up with this and try to create something brilliant as well. So, which WWE superstars have made it to the covers of 2k games since 2014?

WWE’s Royal Rumble involves 30 wrestlers trying to eliminate each other to see which one of them remains the last one standing. A similar matchup goes on when it comes to selecting the poster wrestler for 2k’s annual game release. This time, however, the wrestlers win based on their relevance throughout the year, or in general.

Wrestlelamia recently tweeted the images of all 2k WWE game covers from 2k14 to 2k23. The tweet asked, “What was the best WWE 2K cover?” The 2k14 cover featured Dwayne Johnson screaming in the mic with his signature Samoan tattoos on display. The cover featured Johnson’s WrestleMania frenemy, John Cena for the 2k15 installment.

The 2k16 edition featured Attitude Era’s biggest superstar, Stone Cold Steve Austin. 2k17 however traded charm for brute force with The Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar. 2k18 shifted to skill and strategy and had The Architect Seth Rollins on its cover.

The focus shifted to a veteran once again in 2k19, with The Phenomenal AJ Styles showcasing his hand pose on the cover. While all these covers carried a unique wrestler, 2k20 carried a unique approach to the cover altogether.

Will Dwayne Johnson be back for WWE 2k24?

The cover for WWE 2k20 featured not one, but two wrestlers, with Roman Reigns and Becky Lynch taking dominant stances on the cover art. 2k didn’t release a 2k21 iteration because of the global disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. But, 2k22 returned with the mighty Luchador Rey Mysterio on the cover.

Things went back full circle with the release of WWE 2k23 as John Cena made a return to the game’s cover after 2015. Could this mean that Dwayne Johnson may also return for WWE 2k24? It’s certainly not far-fetched. The Rock has already promised a grand appearance to the WWE Universe. However, many WWE superstars named several potential candidates for the game’s cover.

Ever the heel and credit stealer for Dwayne Johnson, Austin Theory nominated himself. But the consensus was for Cody Rhodes as their pick. WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins also received several votes from the stars.

Unsurprisingly, WWE’s absentee champ Roman Reigns, who also lost the title of 2023 Wrestler of the Year, wasn’t named by any superstar. Who do you think will make it to the cover of WWE 2k24?
