Fans could agree that the stars have put up a good show at the 2024 Royal Rumble. The clashes were larger than life and fans saw many unexpected returns and debuts. While the stars gave their everything inside the ring, it came at a cost for CM Punk. It has been revealed by PWInsider that things went downhill when he faced off against The Scottish Warrior Drew McIntyre during the rumble.

CM Punk getting injured

A review of the match suggested that Punk might have suffered a severe injury when he took an under-hook DDT from McIntyre. It has now been revealed that Punk has suffered a tricep injury. After the spot, he was seen rolling out of the ring holding his arm. He was also seen having a word before entering back into the ring. The two were in a bloody battle where they were adamant to eliminate each other. While McIntyre had the upper hand, Punk was able to throw the 265-pound killing machine out of the ring.

It has also been reported that Punk might either get shelved or will not be able to participate in WrestleMania 40. Punk might need surgery for the injury and will have to undergo physical therapy. The whole recovery process is speculated to last for four to six months.

This might explain why Punk was not very active following the spot. Fans saw him struggling and was seen in a corner of the ring trying to grasp some air. However, the most difficult task for him that night was to get rid of McIntyre.

It looked like McIntyre’s only mission on Saturday night was to eliminate Punk. And it is quite obvious, after the spot the two had a fortnight ago on Monday Night Raw.

 A rivalry in the making

What is the one thing that is common between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk? They both have been eyeing Seth Rollins and his World Heavyweight Championship title. While Punk desired to be the main event star at WrestleMania 40, McIntyre just wanted to be recognized as a champion. They both have a history with Rollins and this leads them to target The Visionary.

However, now it looks like Punk might be losing the spot. In this scenario, WWE’s possible choice might be Drew McIntyre. However, it would be something to see whether he will win the title or not. Regardless of that, this will start a rivalry between the two. If McIntyre defeats Rollins and wins the title, Punk will blame McIntyre for injuring him at the Royal Rumble and costing him his championship belt. Do you think this might be a possibility?
