After a decorated nearly three-decade run, a WWE Hall of Famer will soon say his goodbyes to WWE. On April 2011, following a severe neck injury, he retired from Vince McMahon‘s promotion. The retirement was from in-ring activities as he continued to make appearances in the company. In 2020, he returned in the 30 Men’s Royal Rumble match.

If you guessed the star as Edge, then you are absolutely right. That being said, as his contract comes to an end, his second retirement news is up in the air. Some expect him to join AEW after his retirement. However, the higher ups in WWE don’t believe that will happen.

WWE doesn’t expect Edge to join AEW after his retirement

Recently, GiveMeSport shared a report regarding this matter. The report states that WWE higher-ups are confident that The Rated R Superstar will not join AEW following the expiry of his contract. The report also says that if that happens, it will come as a shock to WWE.

GiveMeSport quotes a WWE higher up in its report stating, “I would be surprised if he finishes his current deal and then goes to AEW, WWE would be surprised too.” The report further quotes, “I’d be surprised if he wrestles past WWE. WWE would be very surprised as well.”

The 4-time WWE Champion has been loyal to the Stamford-based portion for nearly 30 years. So joining Tony Khan’s promotion will surely be a surprise for not only the sports entertainment giant but all the pro wrestling fans. But the retirement part is no shock to anyone, as he has already made everybody aware of it.

An edition of WWE Raw in September 2022 saw the 49-year-old wrestler and Damian Preist square off against each other in the main event. The former picked after a victory over the latter. After his victory over The Judgement Day member, he addresses the Toronto crowd.

The WWE Universe saw the segment after WWE Raw went off the air.’The Ultimate Opportunist mentioned that next year he would retire from the Stamford-based promotion for the second time. Also, he expressed his desire to wrestle his retirement match in his hometown, Toronto. As every year, WWE goes to Toronto in August, pro wrestling fans can expect his last match to be around that time.
