Pro wrestling legend Sting recently secured the AEW Tag Team Championship along with his partner Darby Allin. While the match highlighted Sting as the focal point of things, Allin carried a lot of impact in the match as well. While the victory pumped every pro wrestling fan, AEW’s President Tony Khan was also delighted with the legend’s win.
Tony Khan started AEW out of his sheer love for pro wrestling and to fill the gaps that several pro wrestling companies left. But, one of his biggest draws, Sting, was yet to win a championship in his arena. Now that the legend finally holds the gold in his company, Khan unveiled his genuine sentiments about the high-voltage match.

Pro wrestling news reporter Denise Salcedo recently added a new video to her Instagram account. The footage showcased her interviewing Tony Khan about the new AEW Tag Team Champions, particularly Sting. However, Khan spoke about both Sting and Darby Allin, and why his involvement made the win more special. According to Tony Khan, “It was so great to see Sting and Darby become the world tag team champions. I think they embody in so many ways what AEW is about, trying to take maybe the greatest legend of wrestling,

It’s maybe the best example of this, trying to take somebody and highlight them and showcase them at their best to the fans.” While this showcases how being paired with Sting was good for Allin, Khan noted that the opposite was also true.
Tony Khan noted, “Darby Allin, who I believe compliments Sting, and Sting compliments Darby. They go so well together. They had never worked together. They didn’t know each other and Sting, honestly, when he came in, didn’t know as much about Darby and when I suggested him as a possible partner, a possible somebody that maybe he could bond with. Although they had no clue who each other was, they still managed to soar to greater heights and clinch glory.

The AEW head honcho also elaborated on the dynamic they share by stating, “They became the greatest of friends.” Interestingly, Allin did play a pivotal role in the match. In fact, he was the one who proposed the legend to compete for the tag team titles.
Darby Allin makes an undeniable offer to Sting
The 31-year-old Darby Allin partnered with the 64-year-old Sting to take on AEW Tag Team Champions Ricky Starks and Big Bill. The young star had to work with a legend who is about to retire with more than twice the life experience. Moreover, he had to appear in a main event championship match. But, as Tony Khan said, Allin went ‘all in’ with this.

It was Darby Allin who asked Sting if he wanted to retire as one-half of the AEW Tag Team Champions. This was just the slight push Sting needed to embark on a ride to claim the gold together with Allin.
