CM Punk went from being one of the most loved wrestlers to becoming something of an enigma. While wrestling promotions do not like him, fans still adore him. His anti-authority nature has fans chanting his name in companies he no longer fights for. So, what does WWE legend Shawn Michaels have to say about this?
Fans have been clamoring for the ex-WWE champion ever since his pipebomb promo practically destroyed kayfabe. But will higher authorities listen to Michaels?
Shawn Michaels leaves the door open for CM Punk at NXT

Shawn Michaels has been a mainstay in pro wrestling since 1984. Despite taking his retirement multiple times, he’s still entered the square circle. Over the years, he’s butted heads with numerous co-workers, bosses, and been a controversial figure in the industry. This makes him perfect to give an opinion on Punk.
Being the head honcho of WWE’s NXT division, Michaels was on call to promote NXT No Mercy. During this time, people brought up Punk’s name to see what Michaels had to say about it. Michaels said, “Well, of course we’d welcome him here in NXT. My guess is he probably would go to the main roster, but I always enjoyed working with Phil.”
“He’s a guy that does numbers and makes money. I think that would be a risk, reward ratio that I’m sure, from a company standpoint, they’d have to consider,
But when it comes to, would we take him in NXT and have him on our television? Are you kidding me? Of course, I would.

Punk and Michaels have spent considerable time with each other as they used to share a dressing room. The Heartbreak Kid always found Punk to be an exceptional worker in the ring with his mic work complimenting his presentation. As far as Michael’s is concerned, Punk would always be welcomed to NXT. However, he believes the main roster is the best place for him.

Continuing on the topic of Punk, Michaels said that he understands that Punk is different. He claimed that the two are quite similar, which is why he understands Punk’s plight. He went on to talk about the draw Punk is. “Well, who doesn’t take that kind of star power?” Michaels said, ending it.
But why exactly is such a top draw across all of wrestling out of work? Where will he head next?

Punk’s AEW exit and possible return to the WWE
Punk’s departure from the WWE was due to backstage politics. With frustrations brewing over the booking and backstage heat for his bold attitude, Punk left the company in 2014. He would have a short stint in the UFC before moving to AEW in 2021.
Following an alteration backstage during AEW’s 2023 PPV event All In in London, Punk would be terminated from the company. For months before that, backstage incidents were being brought to light, with Punk being involved in it. Now, WWE fans are hoping that Punk will return to the WWE, but higher authorities like Triple H or Vince McMahon may not let that happen.
