Danielson returned to AEW All Out last Sunday, but it seems to be a short stint. On the last episode of AEW Collision, he announced his upcoming retirement. “So, I told my daughter that once she turned seven, I would start finishing up on my career, and she is six right now, and I’m a man who keeps my promises, especially to the people I love. So, guess what, time is running out,” hinting that his family is very important to him and he wants to spend time with his kids as they grow older. His daughter, Birdie, will be turning seven in May next year. This means that fans will get to see him in the ring for a few more months.

On July 20th this year, at the AEWxNJPW Forbidden Door PPV, The American Dragon proved why he’s highly respected in pro wrestling. He took on Kazuchika Okada, the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, in the main event. After a tough fight, Danielson won by making Okada submit. But the 42-year-old star seriously injured his forearm during the match. He underwent surgery and was absent from AEW for some time. However, with his recent appearance in the ring, it’s not clear if he has completely recovered, despite his dominance over Ricky Starks during All Out.
In 2016, Danielson went into physical retirement due to injuries stemming from multiple concussions. Concussions are a major cause of worry for wrestlers, and this was the case for Danielson as well. The pro wrestler suffered from several seizures and a brain lesion. Following his retirement, he moved into the role of an on-screen general manager for SmackDown within WWE. After his WWE contract expired in May 2021, Danielson made a significant move by signing with AEW and made his debut with the promotion in September of the same year.
After his announcement, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to express why he deserves this retirement.

Clearly, during his time as a wrestler, Danielson was able to gather a fairly large fanbase. So it’s unsurprising that so many were not willing to let go.

Fans are also happy that the star will be able to go out on his own terms.
I would say yes, as in for the good reasons. His health, career ending on a good note, and family. I’m bummed for sure but at least he can end on his own terms. He’s a legend and will be a childhood hero for me. He deserves a good and happy life no matter where he goes.

Others are hoping that with some time still left for his retirement, Danielson would be able to stay healthy and wrap up any loose ends.
I'm happy he got to come back and rewrite the ending to his story, put on some great matches, and work with guys he hadn't had the opportunity to.
I only hope he can get through this year healthy, and this time go out on HIS terms.
