AEW seems to find itself in hot waters with one wrestling legend. The promotion has been the subject of criticism from several angles, including ticket sales, attendance, or booking of their favorite wrestlers. Many legends have been criticizing the Florida-based promotion but none seem to be as brutal as Eric Bischoff. Now, in the latest episode of his podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff has expressed his opinion that AEW is a creative mess and unwatchable.
Eric Bischoff is furious over Tony Khan’s unimaginative booking
Bischoff stated during a recent episode of Strictly Business, “Do I watch the show every week? F**k no. I’d rather chew off my arm than sit down for two hours of AEW it’s that bad creatively for me. But I do drop in, I do follow certain aspects of AEW that either I’m interested in or I want to better understand for the purposes of doing this show for example.”

The former RAW GM’s main issue seems to be a disconnect between weekly shows. There needs to be a disciplined storytelling structure over weeks and months in order to retain fans which, according to Bischoff, Tony Khan cannot build.
However, he praised the recent hire of Jennifer Pepperman who is also a three-time Daytime Emmy Award winner. Pepperman will be working as Vice President, Content Development at AEW. Will this change help AEW become a flourishing business or ultimately will things not change for the better?
AEW viewership numbers seem stagnant
Multiple reports have stated how Dynamite premiered with over 1.4 million viewers and in 2024 the number seems to come down to 800,000 on average. The major reason is difficult to pinpoint. Several factors over time have caused the issue. However, one major issue that fans have expressed their displeasure over, is the booking of the women’s division.
Tony Khan seems to be making amends for it, with his new big-money signings plus bringing back the ranking system for the number one contender. It is not necessary that every signing turns out to be a game-changer. However, one signing that Khan hopes proves to have a major effect is Mercedes Mone aka Sasha Banks.

Mone is very likely to join AEW in the upcoming weeks. One more key factor could be Jennifer Pepperman. Banks and Pepperman have worked closely during their time in WWE. Pepperman has been with WWE since 2017 as a Senior Writer and Producer. Many big-name women wrestlers on the roster had been injured but will be making a return on weekly programming like Thunder Rosa. Hopefully, this can help boost viewership, as it does address one of the many concerns fans have with the promotion. However, it seems that the promotion is banking on a return from Mone to boost these numbers.
