Lately, Tony Khan’s AEW has been making daily headlines for something or other. The promotion is making massive accomplishments with its upcoming show in the United Kingdom. However, with success comes scrutiny, as onlookers point some particular allegations in their direction as well.

After the false accusations of promoting domestic violence through printed t-shirts, a similar, but far worse, allegation is here now. And all of this is happening to the Jacksonville-based promotion, a few months before they debut in the United Kingdom with their PPV, AEW All In. This makes it more concerning for the company.

On April 26, AEW Games released three video game-related t-shirt designs through their Twitter handle. Soon, critics emerged to surround them with numerous accusations and people pointing fingers at their designs. The wrestling community accused the promotion of using Artificial Intelligence for generating t-shirt designs that they have put on sale.

There’s no denying that a significant chunk made in the pro wrestling business comes from merchandising. And to make the most out of it, they have been using in-house designers, but as per the recent criticism coming AEW’s way, they’re using AI for generating designs.

That being said, it wasn’t just the fans who called out the promotion for their wrongdoing, but also some artists having knowledge of the particular work.

A wrestling artist points out a specific detail from Kenny Omega’s t-shirt released by AEW Games

In a conversation with Paste Magazine, wrestling artist Lindsay Rae pointed out some specific details about the Kenny Omega t-shirt. As per her, it suggested the use of AI in designing.

She said, “The first thing I think to look for with a potential AI portrait is if it gets the likeness of the subject right. I don’t think this looks like Kenny Omega, for starters. The shape of his nose, the shape of his lips, it’s all very generic and undefined.”

Following this, she also reflected on how an artist’s work differs from AI and can be understood through the naked eye.

An artist will know to capture the contour of someone’s facial features, that is what makes a face uniquely theirs,” Rae added.

This was a small glimpse of what many independent artists must be thinking right now, especially the ones working in the pro wrestling industry. However, there’s no confirmation now on the allegation. It remains to be seen what AEW responds with to this massive allegation of the promotion, ruining their image.
