Jim Ross didn’t sit still even for a moment in his life. He has been an ardent explorer when it comes to his career. The current AEW commentator continues to reinvent himself in a number of ways. Apart from being an iconic commentator of pro wrestling and some other sports occasionally, JR has a knack for cooking, specifically for barbeque. He took that passion to a whole new level of success when managed to launch a business from this.

Similar to his WWE raw deal, he faced a major setback in his famous BBQ business venture, too. JR has made a name for himself for his quality products (BBQ sauce) that have been widely sold in the US. Everything was going smoothly until the Oklahoma government’s bizarre decision got in the way of his business.

Jim Ross had a blow in his BBQ business

Among the archives of his life’s constant ups and downs, JR recently shared one of the most memorable ones during the latest episode of his Grilling JR podcast. Talking about his BBQ business he noted, ‘We were gonna be we were doing over a million a year in business, but. uh. the state of Oklahoma stopped and closed the exit to my location.”

JR explained how it hampered the growth of his venture and said, “So you had to drive, you had to get off on a service road a mile earlier or get off a service road another mile down the road and then come back. It killed us. It absolutely killed us cause you couldn’t get to our place so. That’s the most memorable story. When they shut down the damn exit to get to our resident.’

Reflecting on how the decision took a serious toll on his customers, who used to visit his store more conveniently earlier, he continued, ‘It was really fun. But the exits closing on both sides. A mile either side of us. It made it inconvenient for the people to get there.”

However, JR ultimately had to wrap his family shop in Norman back in 2010, failing to cope with the sudden shift in the economy. But his Dream BBQ sauce still has huge demand among people as it continues to be sold from online stores.

This brief impactful business proved him as a man of multi-interest and ability and expanded his horizon. With that being said, the one thing that the former WWE commentator didn’t take any interest in is working inside the squared circle.

Jim Ross never liked working in the ring

Despite having a brief run as a pro wrestler, it seems like JR is more comfortable in the commentary box, doing what he does best. He made sporadic in-ring appearances in his career as part of some major storylines most notable during the Attitude Era.

Nevertheless, JR performed his part according to the demand of the storylines but was never really invested in that. The AEW commentator once clarified that he doesn’t hail himself as a perfect fit in the pro wrestler’s category and hence he did those scenes just for the sake of doing it with no passion involved.

We ain’t even hoping to see him back in action as an in-ring performer, rather, we look up to his legendary commentary work for the rest of his days in Tony Khan’s promotion.
