Ronda Rousey left WWE recently after her second stint in the promotion. While some fans expected her to retire from the wrestling industry, she has not completely gone away from the circuit. Interestingly, she made her independent wrestling debut at Wrestling Revolver but we could soon see the former UFC Champion head to WWE’s rival AEW.
AEW has been signing several former WWE stars recently and it wouldn’t be the most shocking news if Rousey is on their list too. Although it may sound like a far-fetched idea to wrap your head around, there are three hints that point toward AEW making a massive move to sign “The Baddest Woman on the Planet.”

After a successful run in UFC, Rousey arrived at WWE when she realized that there wasn’t much left for her in the world of MMA. She arrived in WWE amid much fanfare and even headlined WrestleMania 35. Later, she took a hiatus and returned last year and won the Women’s Royal Rumble and even clinched the SmackDown Women’s championship. But her second stint in WWE was plagued by fans being unhappy with her in-ring work and toward the end of his WWE tenure, her appeal fizzled out. SummerSlam 2023 was the last time we saw her in an official WWE match. Now that she has officially returned to the world of wrestling after a hiatus, Tony Khan could have his eyes fixed on her.
For Rousey, a move to AEW debut would be a chance to revamp her pro wrestling career. If her Wrestling Revolver debut is anything to go by, AEW could also have the perfect first opponent for her as well.
We can see Rousey feuding with Athena, known as Ember Moon to WWE fans. Her Wrestling Revolver match saw Rousey team up with Marina Shafir to take on Billie Starkz and the Ring of Honor Women’s Champion Athena. Hence, it could make for a good first feud for “The Rowdy One.”
The second reason why she might be heading to AEW is that her recent tag match against Athena was just a day before Tony Khan announced that he is waiting to reveal a new ‘world-class’ talent soon. Her independent wrestling debut could be a way to highlight her talent in the ring before she makes the jump to AEW.
Finally, Rousey’s signing will help further AEW’s star profile. She might be the ‘mainstream’ star that Khan desperately needs in order to get the ratings back and also fill up the arenas from time to time. Her star power will attract more eyeballs to AEW and has the potential for a crossover audience, something Khan would love to have.
If Ronda Rousey happens to get signed by AEW, her non-compete clause wouldn’t be an issue because it most probably has already ended, considering her ongoing independent run. If Rousey ends up signing for AEW, when could she make her debut?

The perfect opportunity for a superstar like Rousey to return as a major star would be at a PPV. Since AEW Full Gear 2023 is on November 19, would fans get to see the former WWE champion there?
A few days ago, the CEO of AEW teased wrestling fans about signing a ‘world class’ wrestler to the promotion. While there can be many wrestlers on this list, the three reasons mentioned above make Rousey a highly plausible candidate. Her arrival in AEW on their last PPV of the year will be a big deal for the company.
