Phillip Jack Brooks aka CM Punk has made a name for himself. The notorious star gained notoriety throughout pro wrestling for his heel runs. But another thing that got added to his repertoire is backstage drama. Now it’s been a month since AEW released the star. The wrestling promotion released Punk due to his involvement in a backstage altercation with Jack Perry. Amidst all the rumors about what will be Punk’s next move, the 44-year-old star himself dropped an extremely cryptic message.
CM Punk comes to terms according to his Instagram story
Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp took to X (former Twitter) to share CM Punk’s Instagram story. The story was a screenshot that had a panel from Marvel Comics. In the panel, we can see a dialogue that ensues between Iron Man and Dr. Doom. This dialogue holds very significant meaning, especially considering CM Punk’s fate in the pro wrestling world. The dialogue goes like “So from that moment, our Truce will extend for 24 hours, during which neither of us will launch any aggression against the other, either personally or indirectly, agreed?” To this agreement of Iron Man, Dr. Doom replies, “The terms are acceptable, if not satisfactory”. This could be an anecdote for an important clause.

Most wrestling promotions do not allow a released star to compete at any rival promotions for 30-90 days. This emerged as a result of the incorporation of the non-compete clause. However, in cases of a star’s contract expires, this is not applicable, as can be seen in Edge’s case. The clause is usually in effect if a talent departs the company in any manner before the end of his contract. The message shared by Punk could be a reminder to his fans that the shackles of the clause still bond him. However, it might be nearing its end as they did not specify how long his maiden period was.
But there have been speculations that the star could play a part in the upcoming WWE Survivor Series, which will be held on November 25th 2023. And the speculations have grown rife as the star himself dropped a major hint a few weeks ago.
CM Punk hints at the date of return to pro wrestling
A few weeks ago, the star was seen at the Caged Fury Fighting Championship as a guest commentator. During a playful comment from a fellow commentator that Punk has a lot of time on his hands, he dropped a hint on when his in-ring return might be. After laughing at the comment, he said that he specifically has two months of free time on his hands. As discussed earlier, the maiden period lasts from 30 days to as long as 90 days, and it looks like The Second City Saint’s clause is 60 days long. If the clause asks him not to compete for 60 days after being released, this means that he will be ready to enter the ring right before Survivor Series.
