CM Punk has faced a challenging couple of weeks. Following his suspension from AEW, he was recently let go from the promotion, marking the end of his AEW journey. The wrestling world is buzzing with speculations about his next move, with some suggesting a hiatus reminiscent of his 2014 departure from WWE.

Others speculate a return to UFC once again. On a recent podcast, one former WWE producer highlighted why it would be a bad move for The Second City Saint to get back into the octagon.

Why CM Punk shouldn’t go back to MMA

On the latest episode of his podcast Wrestling with Freddie, Freddie Prinze Jr. shared his opinion on CM Punk’s future. He said, “That would be hysterical unless he wants to get his a*s whipped again.”

He went on to express his views on Punk’s previous stint at UFC, saying, “Like they gave you two bums, bro, and you couldn’t get by either bum. And didn’t even show up like didn’t even land a punch, not even a punch.” He went on to point out a specific instance where Punk struggled with a move. He said, “You saw him even try doing some of these things, like Hangman Page’s Buckshot Lariat. He kinda f**ked that up, couldn’t stick the landing, his knees gave out on him.”

Furthermore, he talked about Punk’s behavior backstage and how it lacked respect and dignity for others. Prinze Jr. said that he believes everyone deserves a chance to earn respect from others, but dignity should be given. “Respect is earned, I get that. But every human that you interact with should be given the opportunity to earn your respect and dignity should be a given. And when you can’t provide either one of those things, it’s a you issue,” Prinze Jr. said, highlighting Punk’s behavior with junior pro wrestlers and staff members.

In his remarks, Prinze Jr. was clear that he wasn’t attempting to disparage Punk’s accomplishments, saying, “I am not trying to s**t on the guy, this is legit criticism. And there’s nothing wrong with that.” He acknowledged Punk’s skills on the mic and in the ring while expressing his belief that the criticism offered was fair and appropriate.

What Prinze Jr. said about Punk in the Octagon is true. Experts consider his UFC career as an experiment gone wrong.

Punk’s run in the Octagon

In September 2016, CM Punk made his much-anticipated UFC debut at UFC 203, a fight that generated substantial hype and contributed to the event’s PPV success. Facing Mickey Gall, the weigh-ins featured heated exchanges as Gall had talked trash in the lead-up. However, the fight itself proved one-sided, with Gall swiftly taking Punk down and securing a first-round submission victory.

Two years later, Punk faced Mike Jackson in his second Octagon bout. This match caused controversy as Jackson had a 0-1 record. The fight kicked off a PPV event. Punk began strong with leg kicks and a takedown in round one. However, he ran into trouble with an adrenaline dump. In the end, he lost by unanimous decision. Later, it emerged that Jackson’s marijuana drug test caused the fight to be overturned. This left CM Punk’s record at 0-2.

With Punk getting into a losing streak so early in his MMA career, even bigwigs like UFC president Dana White asked him to call it quits. Punk did and shortly reignited his wrestling career with AEW. The rest is history.
