It’s been a crazy year for pro wrestling fans. From their favorite superstars passing away to others being outright fired from the promotion, they have seen it all. And while there is a silver lining to the cloud with stars like Edge joining AEW in spite of being so close to retirement. There are some who are choosing the latter route. One such WWE Hall Of Famer just announced last night that he will be retiring from wrestling in 2024.

This legend has shared the stage with greats like Lex Luger, Ric Flair, and even the iconic Hulk Hogan.

Sting declares his last match will take place at AEW’s Revolution in 2024

Sting is one of the few wrestlers from the 80s era who is still entertaining fans today. He started his career in 1985 by joining the Continental Wrestling Association. Then he briefly joined the Universal Wrestling Federation until finally joining WCW with whom he was till 2001.

Sting’s first claim to fame was when he wrestled Ric Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at Clash of the Champions in 1988. The match ended in a draw but was enough to catapult Sting to the top of the wrestling food chain. Sting then teamed up with Hulk Hogan in the 90s as a tag team partner. But later in his career had an iconic rivalry with The Hulkster that fans talk about even today.

Post that he joined TNA (Impact Wrestling) and was with them all the way until 2014. Then he had a short stint with the WWE from 2014 to 2016. He was finally inducted into the Hall Of Fame in April 2016.

Post that he joined AEW in 2020 and has been with them ever since. His first match was at Revolution in March 2021. And just last night on AEW Dynamite, Sting announced to the fans with a heavy heart that his last match will also be at Revolution in March 2024. While doing so he brought up big names like Scott Steiner, Lex Luger, and his arch-rival Hulk Hogan.

He even thanked Ric Flair for putting him on the map after their legendary match at Clash of the Champions in 1988. Fans were dejected on hearing this news but they also knew it was time for Sting to hang his boots. He is 64 years old now and will be 65 by the time Revolution takes place in March. Even the great Hulk Hogan had his final wrestling match at the age of 58. So Sting is well ahead of that age mark.

But this is also not the first time that Sting has announced his retirement.

The time is 2015 and Sting has just signed with the WWE after being in the wrestling business for almost 30 years. Fans were losing their creative minds thinking of the long future of Sting in the WWE.

But after his match against Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Champion at Night of Champions, Sting suffered a neck injury after a turnbuckle powerbomb. And then in April 2016, during his induction into the Hall Of Fame, Sting officially announced his retirement from professional wrestling. However, as we know he didn’t stick to his guns long enough to depart from his true love.
