AEW is at loggerheads with the WWE right from day one. And seems like it’s doing exactly what WCW did almost 25 years ago during the Monday Night Wars. That is recruiting the top talent of the rival promotion. First, it was ‘The Rated R Superstar’ Edge and now it’s ‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair.

Flair just signed a multi-year contract with AEW.

Fans in the arena went crazy when Ric Flair made an entry on Dynamite as Tony Khan’s retirement gift to Sting. Although, the same can’t be said for social media. Khan received a lot of backlash for inviting Flair to AEW due to his problematic past.

But all this doesn’t seem to affect Khan as last night in a press release, AEW officially announced Flair’s signing. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com shared the press release on Twitter, saying, “Ric Flair has signed a multi year contract with AEW. We will have more news on the deal coming to Fightful Select today”. It was also announced that Flair’s ‘Wooooo! Energy’ would now be the official energy drink of AEW.

Although the press release says a multi-year contract, Flair clarified that his contract with AEW will be for 2 years. Flair revealed the same to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. When Meltzer asked him, “So you’re going to be part of the TV for two years?”. Flair answered, “Yes. 76 and still talking. Wooooo!”.

Flair also stated that he expected to be on AEW television for the entire duration of his deal and not just till Sting’s retirement match at Revolution. But does this mean that Flair will be Sting’s opponent for his retirement match?

The first time ever that Sting and Flair wrestled was almost 35 years ago in 1988. This match took place at the first ever Clash of the Champions for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

The match ended in a draw after the 45-minute time limit had expired. Sting even thanked Flair last week on Dynamite for putting him on the map after their legendary match in 1988.

Sting emerged victorious that night and if Flair happens to be his opponent at Revolution, he hopes to repeat the same. But what are your thoughts on Ric Flair signing a multi-year contract with AEW?
