“Gross Disgusting Poors”: Even With Insulting Remarks, MJF Gives an Emotional Shout-Out From His Past to Tonight’s AEW Dynamite Audience

Ahead of his appearance at AEW Dynamite tonight, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, aka MJF, posted a shocking homage to the state of Indiana. The AEW World Champion has had a long history with the state. Before his illustrious career at AEW, the wrestler had had humble beginnings. MJF had a brief stint at AAW Pro, for which he moved to Indiana to remain closer to the promotion.

While there, the wrestler seems to have a special connection with the state. Ahead of his live appearance at AEW Dynamite tonight, he gave a shout-out to the crowd of Indiana with an insulting yet emotional remark.

MJF’s love for Indiana

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the AEW World Champion addressed the people of Indiana that he returning there for an event. Recalling his past, the wrestler went into why exactly the state meant so much to him, despite his brief residence there. “When I tried to make a name for myself outside of the northeast indies I reached out to @AAWPro trying to get work. They told me they’d love to book me regularly but I wasn’t worth the flight. So I said what if I lived in the Midwest? they responded with ‘Lol. Sure’,” Friedman said in a tweet.

Thus began Friedman’s journey to Indiana. “I packed my bags and moved to greenwood, Indiana. I lived in Indiana for a year. The people in Hoosier country are gross disgusting Poors,” Friedman said, referring to the fact that Indiana is one of the lower-income states in the country.

However, this didn’t seem to deter the wrestler. “But they are my gross disgusting Poors. See you white trash hicks tomorrow!” he said, implying that he considers himself to be a part of them, even after all this time.

Originally a New York native, MJF has hopped various indie circuits before he made his way to AEW.

MJF’s wrestling journey started at the Create A Pro Wrestling Academy in New York. He debuted in indie promotions and then joined MLW, winning titles like the MLW World Middleweight Championship and MLW World Tag Team Championship. In AEW, he is known for his captivating heel persona, stirring real-life controversies, and his remarkable mic skills.

He’s had memorable matches with top stars like CM Punk and Chris Jericho, and he’s currently the AEW World Champion, showcasing his wrestling prowess and fan engagement. An eight-man tournament at AEW Grand Slam this month will decide Max’s next world championship opponent.
