The world of pro wrestling was left in shock when WWE declared that Charlotte Flair had sustained a major injury. On top of that, it was also made official that she will be missing out on 9 months of in-ring action.
Injuries happen to be a part of this industry and almost no one is safe from them. The latest to join this list is Tony Khan’s top star and AEW’s former World Champion MJF. After the star’s 406-day reign ended at AEW World’s End, details about his injury have surfaced.

According to a report by Wrestling Observer News, Friedman’s shoulder injury is very “legitimate.” The star has been suffering from an injured shoulder for quite some time now. He was in a dilemma previously, on whether to opt for surgery or go for physical rehabilitation. So it looks like he has finally made a decision.
MJF’s shoulder injury is the most serious. He’s hoping to have it heal through rehab rather than surgery, because surgery would put him out for months, and he was told perhaps close to a year, which he wants to avoid.

The star chose physical rehabilitation over surgery. The primary reason behind it is the fact that surgery might put him out of action for a long time as seen in the case of Charlotte Flair. Due to her surgery, Flair is set to miss out on the upcoming Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 40.
The 27-year-old star had updated fans about his injured shoulder on an episode of AEW in November. Despite the injury, he had decided to face Samoa Joe at World’s End to defend his title.
However, there are more updates on his possible future at AEW. If the rumors are true, this injury might tie into his next storyline at the promotion.
How this injury will affect MJF’s career at AEW
Following his defeat at World’s End, the major update Tony Khan made was removing MJF’s name from the roster page. This has caused a major stir-up amongst fans as the star had cleared rumors of his exit from AEW. It had been previously reported that his contract with AEW was set to expire at the beginning of 2024. Considering the current scenario, it has been rumored that a possible new storyline might be in the works.

It was reported that AEW might be working on a ‘free agent’ storyline. MJF has not been advertised for the upcoming Wembley event. Apart from that, as the promotion enters the 2024 bidding wars, it is stated that he might not be present there. It is mainly believed that MJF has signed a long-term contract with AEW but it was never revealed. Tony Khan might have taken this decision to work on the free-agent storyline.

This could be pretty helpful for MJF right now as the star might work as a part-timer while he focuses on his rehab. Fans might have to wait and see how things go for the former champion. We wish MJF a speedy recovery. What do you think AEW has in store for MJF following his recovery?
