Edge has been the true epitome of a miraculous comeback story in WWE. The Rated-R superstar fought through time, injuries, and opinions to return to the squared circle. Moreover, Edge has said on multiple occasions that he is on borrowed time during his current run. Does that mean that would be the storybook ending for him in WWE?

One of his prominent rivals, back in the day, seems to have a different perspective. Moreover, he also believes Edge would not take the same path as a fellow WWE Hall of Famer did in his career.

The Ultimate Opportunist was forced to retire from WWE in 2011, due to major neck injuries. He stayed away from the ring for nearly a decade, recuperating, building fitness, and pursuing outside ventures. However, in 2020, the wait was finally over for Edge as he came back as a surprise entrant in the 2020 Royal Rumble match.

Since then, Edge has delivered some of the most amazing performances in his entire career against the likes of Roman Reigns, Finn Balor, and Seth Rollins. Moreover, he came back to WWE to finish his career on his own terms, while knowing that he only had limited time on his hands.

Edge’s former bitter rival, Matt Hardy, had an interesting take on his current stint in WWE. The former WWE tag team champion stated that he could have his last match in WWE, seeing his commitment to the company. At the same time, Hardy also believed that Edge would not follow in the footsteps of two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, doing multiple last matches.

“Yeah, I think it would be very feasible for him to actually have his final match outside WWE. I think that’s something that is possible. It may not. I mean, he may just finish there. I could see him being a guy that was committed. If he says like, it is his last match, I don’t think he’s gonna do like Ric Flair and have like, five or six last matches. I could see him finishing up with WWE and having his final few matches somewhere else.”

Matt concluded that Edge could finish his WWE run and have some of his final matches at other promotions.

Was Matt Hardy hinting toward seeing Edge in AEW?

Matt Hardy, much like Edge, rose to prominence in WWE. However, the former Broken One’s final stint in the company came to an end in 2020, following which he joined AEW. By stating “somewhere else,” it is possible that Matt could be referring to seeing Edge in his current promotion at the end of his career.

After all, Edge could reunite with a lot of familiar faces in Tony Khan’s promotion, especially his real-life best friend Christian Cage. Both he and Christian were last seen together in the ring at the 2021 Royal Rumble match. Afterward, Christian jumped shipped to AEW, while Edge remained with WWE.
