Many people consider Japan the birthplace of women’s pro wrestling. With the iconic legacies left behind by wrestlers such as Manami Toyota, Aja Kong, and the Crush Gals, Joshi wrestling took the world by storm. So much so that major stars like Mercedes Mone, traded a 6 figure from WWE deal to wrestle in Japan. And now another star has opted for the same.

Recently, the current NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Giulia was interviewed, where she talked about the rumours of her future in wrestling. The interview was published in the Number Web Sports Graphic publication in Japanese on December 26th and it showcases the changing  tide in the desires of female wrestlers today.

While talking about her future in Wrestling in the US, the STRONG champion states, “Overseas is good too, but I want to do it in Japan. But the world is big, isn’t it?” The 29-year-old champion regards winning the STRONG Women’s championship as the turning point in her career. Despite having a deep desire to perform overseas, she wants to elevate the status of Women’s wrestling in Japan first.

The statement comes as a heartbreak for WWE fans who were hoping for Giulia to join WWE. There were rumors of her joining AEW earlier, but reports suggest that Tony Khan did not show much interest in her. Hence, WWE was the only major promotion left. But as things stand, the performer has other plans.

Though she has denied moving away from NJPW for now, she has not completely shut down the chances of competing outside and gaining knowledge and experience. She states, “When you’re absorbing new things like now, everything is a learning experience. I want to learn more. I want to level up more.” Giulia plans to use their knowledge and experience to elevate women’s pro-wrestling and preserve the history of Japan.
