Ric Flair took the wrestling world by storm, making a surprise debut at the AEW ring on the October 25 edition of AEW Dynamite. Days after that, he signed a multi-year deal with Khan’s company. Later, reports suggested that the 74-year-old’s shocking move has elevated his business venture, Wooooo!, to become AEW’s exclusive energy drink.

That said, his return to the ring at this age, and with a rival promotion hasn’t sat well with many wrestling fans and insiders. Social media has seen a flood of trolls, memes, and brickbats aimed toward the WWE Hall of Famer. Now, The Nature Boy has responded to the criticism he has been receiving in turn.

Ric Flair accused many of being jealous of his AEW signing

Flair had twice the benefits from the controversial deal. Not only as he’s able to make appearances at the promotion, but also thanks to the deal set up to promote his energy drink. On the energy drink venture, the 16-time WWE World Champion noted that it’s a huge plus for his beverage company to team up with the Jacksonville-based promotion. He further added that he didn’t sell himself but his drink. When Khan bought it and issued an offer to him to be a part of Sting’s retirement segment, he readily got on board.

But he’s well aware of the fact that it offended many people. Addressing them during an interview with ESPN, the wrestling legend noted, ”At my age, the world of jealousy has never been bigger. You don’t think there are a lot of jealous people that I’m back on TV? You’re out of your mind. You know that adage that you want to see somebody do good, but not too good?”

However, the former WWE legend thinks that his AEW signing has not led to much resentment in the Stamford-based company.

Flair believes that any professional industry including WWE wants to see talents happy and content, which he’s right now. Also, he’s confident that his iconic “Woo!” will continue to be a part of WWE’s intro as a sign of their zero ill will towards him.

The newest AEW act also revealed that he was looking to do something outside of the WWE arena for a long. But he couldn’t do it because of the ongoing contract and his daughter, Charlotte Flair’s active engagement with it. However, once the contract was up, Tony Khan managed to  jump on the opportunity right away.

Now, it will be riveting to see what AEW offers Flair in the next two years.
