It’s always interesting to see which promotion the free agents in wrestling associate themselves with. In the past, WWE has had a monopoly in adding the best talents to its roster. But that is changing now with a rival like AEW giving the Stamford-based promotion a run for its money. And veteran Chris Jericho recently praised the Jacksonville-based company for acquiring former NJPW star Jay White.

There were many speculations regarding the talented performer’s next destination, and he ended all of them by making a surprise debut on the April 5th edition of Dynamite. Jericho talked about how this new addition to the AEW roster one-ups WWE.

Jericho recently interacted on the Battleground podcast and delved into the matter. He said, That’s why Jay White I mean what a great example of us still having the momentum. Hottest free agent in the world, silver platter for WWE, I mean the guy is 6ft 4, he’s international he’s got the accent which chicks love.”

“He’s a great worker, he’s a great heel, he’s a great babyface and he chose AEW. If that doesn’t tell you what’s going on with us, I don’t know what will.” added Jericho.

It’s no secret that White was a highly sought-after performer and WWE was reported to be quite interested in him. However, he chose to go ahead with the Tony Khan-led promotion.

It will be too early to say that it’s a shift in the power dynamics but it sure is a win for AEW at the expense of WWE. Apart from the many impressive qualities that Jericho said White possesses what else makes him so special?

Jay White has already had an impactful career

He already has had a stellar career in NJPW. The Kiwi has held the IWGP world heavyweight championship once as well as the IWGP Intercontinental championship.

He has also served as the leader of the uber-popular Bullet Club. This isn’t White’s first rodeo with AEW either, he appeared in the company albeit sporadically in 2022 as well.
