Some massive backstage changes hit AEW this week. The news of two prominent officials from the company, Dana Massie and Rafael Morffi departure came to light. Morffi’s exit from his role comes as a result of his transition to a new role as the senior executive at Barclay’s Center. While there were no updates as to why Massie, Chief Marketing and Merchandizing Officer of AEW decided to leave the company, some backstage information came to light recently.

Why did Dana Massie leave AEW?

Not many people know this, but Dana Massie is the wife of AEW’s EVP and one of the Young Bucks, Matt Jackson. The reason for her departure, according to Wrestling Observer, dates back to 2022. Fans witnessed the massive success of the AEW PPV All Out in 2022. However, one more reason the PPV is famous or infamous is for the post-show media scrum. Fans remember that at the media scrum, CM Punk had verbally bashed the many higher-ups of the company.

The people who had landed in his crosshairs were Kenny Omega, Tony Khan, The Young Bucks, and Adam Page. According to Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, Punk had even called out Massie. Following the scrum, they reported that the Bucks, Omega, and Page barged into Punk’s changing room. However, there are no updates as to what happened inside, as all of them are bound by a confidentiality clause.

Whether the stars got involved in some major altercations is not a mystery. However, the event has left a permanent black eye on the company. Not only did Punk’s comments cause a massive steer-up on the company’s management, but according to Massie, the Bucks have been vilified since then.

As Meltzer stated, Massie was planning to work with AEW for a long time. She had been with the promotion even before they had organized their first-ever event. Her exit comes as a result of the media portrayal of The Bucks since then. Apart from that, they have not had a chance to share their side of the story. Neither did the company had never issued an official statement in favor of the Bucks. Apart from that, belief existed that the company had not defended Massie when Punk called her out.
