Sauber: Latest News, Results, Drivers and Car Updates

Sauber are another team that have a lot of history in Formula One. Peter Sauber began to work on sports cars back in the 1970s but only entered Formula One from 1993 onwards.

They raced in other motorsport series before dabbling into Formula One. In 2019, they fielded Antonio Giovinazzi and the returning Kimi Raikkonen.

The team changed the name to Alfa Romeo Racing Orlen in the 2020 season.

On-track Achievements

Like most new teams, they had a rocky start, with more retirements than finishes. But then, in 1995, German driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen scored a maiden podium in Italy.

Then, in 1996 and 1997, Johnny Herbert picked up a podium in each year, at Monaco and Hungary respectively. Jean Alesi continued the trend for Sauber F1 in 1998 at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Then, it was Nick Heidfeld in Brazil 2001, as he and rookie teammate Kimi Raikkonen helped the team finish 4th in the championship.

In 2006, Sauber was bought by BMW, after the latter split from Williams. Finally, in 2008, Robert Kubica delivered Sauber’s first and only win in their entire career.

Since then, the closest anyone ever got to that was Sergio Perez at the 2012 Malaysian GP, with 2nd.

Sauber’s Sponsors

Sauber’s title sponsor is Alfa Romeo, essentially making them a Ferrari B team. Other partners include Silanna, Carrera, Claro, Richard Mille, Hewlett Packard, Mitsubishi, Pirelli, Singapore Airlines, and many more.

Charity Work

In 2014, Sauber pledged their support behind Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research.
