Paolo Banchero is definitely amongst the brightest prospects in the league. The no.1 draft pick turned-Rookie of the Year has had an amazing debut season, making him a wanted man on the international scene.

Holding an Italian citizenship due to his paternal side, Young Banchero could have chosen to represent the Mediterranean country. But the Washington native chose to represent the United States, mostly due to his mother being a US international player herself during her own playing days.

Having previously agreed to play with the Italian team, this decision enraged Gianni Petrucci. According to AFD, the Italian president went on to speak with the press regarding the matter, stating, “It was a legitimate decision, but he could have made a call to communicate that to us.”
