The Golden State Warriors family is mourning the loss of their assistant coach Dejan Milojević. The Serbian national has been with the Warriors since 2021. It was reported that Milojević was at a private dinner in Salt Lake City where he suffered a heart attack after which he was taken to a hospital.

The passing of Milojević has brought immense grief to the Warriors camp. Head coach Steve Kerr conveyed his condolences in a statement after Milojević’s death.

Kerr wrote a heartfelt note for Milojević in the statement highlighting some of his qualities and stating that he was one of the best people he have had the privilege to be around. He said, “We are absolutely devastated by Dejan’s sudden passing. This is a shocking and tragic blow for everyone associated with the Warriors and an incredibly difficult time for his family, friends, and all of us who had the incredible pleasure to work with him”.

“We grieve with and for his wife Natasa, and their children Nikola and Masa. Their loss is unfathomable”, he continued. The Warriors were in Utah for the upcoming game. However, after this tragedy that happened within their family, the game will have to be postponed. Apart from Milojević’s Warriors association, he had a good basketball career. He was an active player from 1994 to 2009 and he played as a power forward.

However, his work with the Warriors was his entry into the world of the NBA. He did appear for the 1999 NBA draft but unfortunately he wasn’t picked by any team. But that didn’t stop Milojević from continuing with his love for basketball. Despite a disappointing draft experience, he went on to have a stellar career in Europe.

The 6’7, 250-pound athlete was a three-time Adriatic Basketball Association MVP. He also led the league in scoring twice. Milojević was also the winner of the Yugoslav Cup and EuroBasket title as an athlete. As for his NBA accomplishments, the 2022 NBA title that the Warriors won was the highlight of his NBA career. Undoubtedly, there were more things that he would have achieved with the Warriors, but this unfortunate tragedy has put an end to it. Our condolences are with Milojević’s family and friends.
