The college basketball scene in America has gone through a drastic change. While the men’s showcase was often a highlight of the year, it’s the women’s side of things that has taken over. Especially in the last couple of years. Whether it was Caitlin Clark’s excellence or Angel Reese’s exploits, the game has quickly become a yearly highlight. The matchup between Iowa and Shaquille O’Neal’s alma mater, LSU, has ignited a passion for the sport. As a result, conversations around prospects are becoming commonplace.
One such prospect is Shaquille O’Neal‘s daughter, Me’arah O’Neal. Recently, the youngest O’Neal shared her thought process on choosing her college.

Me’arah has quickly become a name to keep your eyes on as far as the women’s basketball sphere is concerned. The 6’4 physical freak already has elite tools and versatility. As a result, a ton of colleges are recruiting the 35th-ranked prospect of the class.
During a recent run organized by Nike, called the Nike Nationals, the stalwart showcased some of her dad’s shot-blocking ability. Leading all players in blocks, Me’arah was dominant while averaging 11.1 points and 7.0 rebounds a game.
While she considers her greatest strength as her versatility, it is hard to find fault in that assessment. Even with an impressive build, O’Neal continues to be a steady shooter. While parts of her game clearly remind you of her dad, for O’Neal the biggest inspiration was, in fact, her brother. However, her career path seems more reminiscent of her dad’s.
While Shareef lights up the G-League Ignite, Miss O’Neal is choosing to opt for college basketball. With its growing popularity, the choice seems rather obvious. However, with her name and talent, offers have come in from a number of colleges. Names like Alabama, California, Florida, and even the UK are all lined up.
For the 17-year-old, her mindset on the choice is clear. “I’m definitely big on relationships…So whichever school is most invested and where I’ll have a successful career is definitely where I will end up”. With her enlightening perspective on the matter, perhaps a move to Shaq’s alma mater, where her brother spent some time as well, seems like a good move.
With Angel Reese and the LSU squad receiving endorsements from Shaq, a move there might make the most sense for the upstart.
LSU women’s basketball
The LSU team became extremely famous and controversial over the last calendar year. Whether it was the team’s gritty attitude or chief attraction, Angel Reese’s exploits, the team has constantly been in the news. However, the results can’t be undermined.

Beating tournament dominators Iowa in the NCAA Finals already proved the LSU team’s credentials. However, the team goes from strength to strength. While Reese is the primary highlight, names like Flau’jae Johnson and others continue to gain prominence.
Recently, Johnson’s album received a shoutout from the Los Angeles Lakers big man as well. While Reese’s private life becomes more and more public, the transition for Me’arah would certainly not be easy. However, from everything we’ve seen from the kid, she seems extremely intelligent.
With a lifetime of being around Shaquille O’Neal, media attention wouldn’t be a tremendous challenge for the young sensation. But, whether she chooses to follow in Angel Reese, her father, and her brother’s footsteps – only time will tell.
