The summer months are surely starting to heat up for sports aficionados. Between the fascination around the US women’s teams for the World Championship to the fever surrounding the FIBA World Cup, fans have had a lot to take in. However, collectively holding everyone’s attention is the former in Budapest. Moreover, USA’s triumph has garnered the attention of the likes of NBA and Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson. An avid fan of track & field, Earvin had a message to share after the American Sprinters’ latest triumph.

Avidly keeping up with the World Championships in Budapest, Magic has provided constant updates about the event’s ongoings. Just 2 days prior, the $620 million rich Johnson celebrated the relay team’s triumph despite the chaos around their victory. Today, the US Women’s Team celebrated success.

Even though much of the buildup was devoted to the intriguing rivalry between Sha’Carri and members of Team Jamaica, Magic paid no heed to such notions. Magic’s classy congratulations focused on the feat achieved by the young athletes. A highly competitive Finals saw Team USA grab the silver and bronze medals as sprinters Gabby Thomas and Sha’Carri Richardson took home second and third-place finishes, respectively.

After Richardson’s triumphant return to the podium left many American fans emotional, there were numerous happy tears following her latest success. However, it was the competitive battle between Sha’Carri and veteran Shelly-Ann-Fraser-Pryce that stole the limelight.

Richardson and Fraser-Pryce didn’t have the greatest of relationships ahead of the World Championship. After coming last in the Diamond League in 2021, the Jamaican was caught unintentionally smirking during Richardson’s interview. The 23-year-old took it personally and kept the image as the profile picture on her social media handles. However, things seem to have improved now as the American star was full of praise for the 36-year-old after winning the 100m Gold, even admitting she was a major inspiration to Richardson.

Sha’Carri Richardson’s 100m win overshadowed by twin Jamaican triumphs

In a tale as old as time, the proven master went up against a prodigy. As Richardson came across Shelly-Ann-Fraser-Pryce, it was a tale of two timelines converging.

Ultimately, Shelly’s teammate Shericka Jackson retained her 200m women’s title. In the 4X100 m relay race, Shelly, along with her Jamaican co-stars, would put on a remarkable performance.

Climbing up the leaderboards, their 41.70 seconds finish time would end up as the second-best qualifying time ever. While Sha’Carri made waves with her victory in the 100m sprint, the 23-year-old wasn’t able to engineer a win for her team in other races.
