In the earlier days of the NBA (’70s, ’80s, and ?90s), the relationship between an NBA ref and an NBA player was based on trust, logic, and clear communication. Referees would make the time and effort to carefully explain to the players why they made a certain decision. However, with time the relationship between players and referees has gotten extremely distant.

In a recent interview, a former NBA champion obliterates Michael Jordan‘s special treatment by referees and the NBA.

In a recent interview for ?Underdog NBA? on ?YouTube?, Rasheed Wallace talks about the fouls that only NBA superstars got away with. He said, ?Yes okay?Michael Jordan works hard. He explains, ?We might not be that ?household name? or we might not be the ?face? on TV commercials to sell the game on Sunday afternoons, but I?ll be damned if I?m not working just as hard he (Jordan) is, to score this point, to grab this rebound, to win this game.?.

The former NBA champion finally says this, ?So damn, I can?t get a fair shot at that? Y?all (referees) just going to sit here and suck d*** like ‘Oh we?re just going to give him the benefit of doubt…’ huh??

?

The former NBA champion seems visibly frustrated about the ?unfair? practices that referees follow to this day. He goes on to share another story of his conversation with a referee from his playing days in the NBA.

Rasheed Wallace?s relationship with the NBA referees

Rasheed Wallace asked the referee one day, ?Who?s the top Power Forwards to you?? And the referee responded, ?You, KG and Tim Duncan.?. Wallace then asks the referee, ?Okay?what are they averaging? And how many times do they go to the line (free throw line)??. The referee responds, ?Around mid 20?s (points) and they go to the line a lot.? After Rasheed Wallace asks the referee if they go to the ?line? more than him, the referee responds, ?Yes.? Rasheed Wallace then blasts the referee, ?You are already showing favoritism by sending them to the line more and I?m not getting sent to the line. And I?m being fouled just as much.?.

Wallace clarifies, ?I ain?t got nearly as many points as KG got but look at that ‘win’ column, to me that?s where it was at.? He further adds, ?With the referees, as I got older?I didn?t have to do all the cussing or come with attitude. I?m just hitting them with logic now.?.
