Ric Flair Surprise Leaves 5ft 9 Former NBA Superstar Noticing 1 Key Height-Related Attribute

Most NBA athletes and pro wrestlers are physical specimens. However, one would expect basketball players to be taller on average as compared to pro wrestlers. But what happens when an NBA star below 6 feet meets a wrestler above that height? Not many could take the opportunity to crack a joke on themselves, but then that is where Isaiah Thomas is a different person. The ex-NBA star took a humorous approach to the height difference between him and Ric Flair.

“Just seen Rick flair in the airport. Damn I’m way taller than his a** lol. That’s a legend though,” Thomas posted on X. It is worth mentioning that Isaiah is 5’9″ tall as per the NBA listing, while Ric Flair is 6’1″. Even the X users are all laughing at the ex-NBA star’s humorous take on the height difference between the two.

However, it is not as if Thomas did not wish that he had grown a bit further in his height. In fact, in Tim Layden’s feature story on Thomas for The Crossover, he recounts a story from Thomas’s mother about the method her son used to encourage his body to stretch to new heights. “In my basement, he had one machine that was supposed to stretch him out and another machine so he could hang upside down,” Thomas’s mother had said.

However, the ex-NBA star does not lack acceptance about his short height. He even once admitted that he is shorter than the actual NBA listing. However, his height could not stop him from making it to the NBA anyway and becoming a 2x All-Star. His career path is a testament to the fact that height is not a factor that can limit you at the game. There have been other examples of this as well.

Spud Webb was a perfect example of how great things come in small packaging. Standing at just 5’6″, Webb earned his name as ‘Spudnik’ for his electrifying leaping ability. It is said that Webb used to defy gravity with his dunks. And despite his short height, he went on to win the 1986 NBA Slam Dunk Contest. In fact, Spud is among the only two players who were below 6 feet and still won an NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

The second name on the list is Nate Robinson. Nate is not just the second player to win Slam Dunk Contest standing under 6 feet, but he did it three times. He won NBA Slam Dunk Contests in 2006, 2009, and 2010. However, there are others as well who were below 6 feet but still earned a name for themselves in the NBA community, including Muggsy Bogues, Damon Stoudamire, Earl Boykins, and some others as well.
