Will Ferrell Reveals How Michael Jordan’s Billion-Dollar Empire Transformed College Basketball Despite Initial Air Jordan Setbacks

Air Jordan sneakers turned into a trend instantly when they were released in a highly competitive market, especially in college basketball. The dashing red Jordan 1s are still considered a must in everyone’s sneaker collection. However, what was it like to own the Jordans when it was released back in 1985? Famous American actor and comedian Will Ferrell decided to throw light on it. 

The USC graduate shared insights on the hype behind the Chicago Bulls icon’s sneakers. The 56-year-old also revealed that the Jordans did not help him much in his college career, though. It wasn’t a lucky charm for Ferrell, but he revealed how the rest of the nation sensationalized it.

A height of 6’3 would help you to transform into a talented guard in the modern NBA. But Will Ferrell somehow managed to play as a center at the University of South California. The 56-year-old went on sneaker shopping with ‘Complex’ and we came to know that Ferrell was a three-sport athlete in high school, University High, and a 6’3 center for the USC Trojans. 

Standing in front of the retro Jordan 1s, the host couldn’t help but question Ferrell about His Airness‘ sneakers. The 4x Emmy award winner shared, “I remember that Magic and Bird, that Converse was really the big shoe… It would have been 85-86, it was my senior year in high school and lot of the high school were getting samples of these new Air Jordans… We got to order them, they were super cool but our colors were white and navy blue[The Air Jordan 1s OG ‘Metallic Blue’]. “

Yet sadly, the Air Jordans were not good enough for Ferrell. He added, “Wearing a pair of Jordan, I averaged 1.2 points a game.” Well, that’s not a good number, but he also shared, “I was the captain of our team. I was the sixth man, a lot of hustle, rebounding.” 

Ferrell further revealed he always wore Adidas. Well, Michael Jordan is not going to like this at all. However, the 56-year-old had his reason for it.

Why did Will Ferrell prefer Adidas?

Ferrell stated, “Cause I always have a narrow foot…got a narrow skinny foot, very European petite foot. My foot smokes cigarettes, that’s how European my foot is.” Hopefully, this answer satisfies MJ! 

Ferrell has an immense love for the sport. He even starred in the movie, ‘Semi-Pro’, where his iconic character, ‘Jackie Moon’, was loved by the hoop fans. He even dressed up as Jackie Moon in a Warriors game last year, impressing Klay Thompson with his outfit. Ferrell is a basketball buff, just like us!
