Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player ever, for most people. The magnitude of his influence is immeasurable. Especially for the people who witnessed his greatness in the ’90s, Jordan holds a special place in their minds. For this horticulture teacher, that was exactly the case when he decided to name his golden ticket, ‘Michael Jordan’.

For those who are still wondering what it is, the Annual World Pumpkin Weigh-Off recently took place in Half Moon Bay, California. And surprisingly, the victor was ‘Michael Jordan’.

No. It was not ‘the’ Michael Jordan himself who won the competition. It was Minnesota horticultural teacher Travis Gienger who grew a pumpkin so massive that it broke all the records.

Gienger said, “This thing is named Michael Jordan because it?s (20)23 and he?s the greatest basketball player of all time so the only thing we have to figure out is if this is the greatest pumpkin of all time.” The massive pumpkin weighed in at 2,749 lbs. That was 47 pounds more than the previous record set in 2021.

According to The Guardian, Michel Jordan started out as big as a round basketball, but now the magnificent beast is the size of 2,110 basketballs. The horticulture teacher has been growing pumpkins ever since he was a teenager. To get Michael Jordan to the size he did, Gienger spent 15,000 dollars.

But the money spent was worth it, as the prize for first place was 30,000 dollars and a ring similar to a Super Bowl ring. Gienger revealed that he is planning on investing the money he received to grow a bigger pumpkin next year.

MJ is helping teachers through his philanthropic work

Michael Jordan has a brand called Jordan Fundamentals.?He uses this to help students and teachers alike. The Chicago Bulls legend has revealed that his teachers meant a lot to him. Howard White revealed that they had already given out money to teachers who had sent in proposals for them. This goes from doing something at their schools to giving scholarships to the students.

Howard said that when Jordan expressed his desire to help the teacher along with the importance of teachers in his life, it felt necessary to help educators from around the nation. Since then, the organization has heavily dedicated itself to helping teachers. Jordan has influenced people with his play on the court and similarly with his works off the court.
