In a resurfaced clip from 6 months ago, legendary filmmaker Spike Lee had a candid discussion with Charles Barkley. Spike Lee’s first movie came out in 1989 called “Do the Right Thing“. In a scene from the movie, a young Spike Lee’s friend (in the movie) praises the great Larry Bird when he says, “When a white boy is bad, you’ve got to give him credit.“.

Spike Lee confesses to Charles Barkley that he said a “not-so-nice” thing about the Boston Celtics legend. A young Spike Lee in the movie responds to his friend in the scene by saying, “He’s the ugliest mother****** in the NBA, that’s what he is.“.

Spike Lee then narrates to Charles Barkley his experience of meeting Larry bird for the first time. He says, “First time I met him was for a ‘Captain-One’ commercial. I was really nervous.“.

The 66-year-old filmmaker further explains, “I made it a point that when Larry enters the set, I’m gonna go to his trailer. So I knocked on his trailer and said, “Mr.Bird, can I please come in?”. I was nervous when I said, “Larry, I apologise for anything you might have taken offense to. Larry said, “Spike man..forget about that.” and we dapped up. I really wanted to say that because I was so nervous.“.

Spike Lee had extreme respect and love for the Boston Celtics legend, just like everyone else. But why does Larry Bird demand so much respect?

Why was Larry Bird so feared and respected?

Larry Bird carried himself with supreme confidence. His body language radiated confidence with almost a “killer-like” aura, which intimidated many NBA players during his career. He was considered the “Top Dog” by everyone in the Boston Celtics franchise, including the head coach.

Larry’s basketball IQ was off the chart, as he was able to correctly guess the outcome of games almost every time. He led the Boston Celtics to 3 NBA championships, won 3 MVPs and was a 12-time all-star.
