In sports, talent alone isn’t always sufficient to achieve success due to the unpredictable nature of the industry. Formerly highly regarded, a 2x NBA All-Star center is well aware of this. In a candid talk with younger players, the 29-year-old highlighted the significance of teamwork, positive presence, and having a bad attitude and consistency issues that limit personal growth. His powerful words struck a chord with Boston Celtics star Kevin Garnett as well as he shared the viral clip on Instagram.

Andre Drummond was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in 2012, with high hopes held for him. Drummond had potential in his early years but didn’t reach expectations and currently plays as a backup center for the Chicago Bulls.

Kevin Garnett’s Support and Recognition

Kevin Garnett recently echoed what Andre Drummond said, supporting the important lessons the current Chicago Bulls center taught young players. In a video that has quickly gone viral on social media, Drummond talks about his own life as a cautionary tale of missed chances. “I went from $100m to a f*****g league minimum.” Garnett, who is known for his fiery emotion and intense dedication to the game, connected deeply with Drummond’s message.

The video, which Garnett posted on his Instagram stories, had the caption, “Respect. Real talk,” while affirming what Drummond was talking about. The 29-year-old earned a big 5-year, $125 million contract due to his consistent performances. He made 2x All-Star games and was the rebounding leader four times. However, he couldn’t maintain his level and soon found himself out of the rotation.

Since being traded by the Pistons in 2020, Drummond has suited up for 5 different teams. Drummond’s honesty about his own problems, especially with his attitude and lack of consistency, strikes a chord with athletes of all levels, especially Garnett.

Kevin Garnett was the highest-paid player in NBA history

Kevin Garnett is one of the biggest names in NBA history. At the time of his retirement, he was the highest-paid basketball player in league history without stat-padding or trying to get more attention for himself. Similarly to Drummond, Garnett earned big money after the end of his entry-level contract. However, Garnett continued to earn big bucks even after that as he maintained a high level of quality.

Garnett was known for being very competitive and always working hard to help his team win. He was the perfect example of a selfless team player. During his long and successful career, he focused on parts of the game that don’t always show up on the stat sheet, like constant defense, hard work, and the ability to make others better.
