Jalen Rose was a part of the iconic ?Fab Five? Michigan University team, the first-ever team to start five freshmen. The ?Fab Five? went onto the ?Final 4? of the NCAA Championship in 1991 and 1992 as freshmen and as sophomores. 4 out of the 5 players of ?Fab Five? went onto play in the NBA. Jalen Rose was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in 1994 and was a mid-tier player before retiring in 2007. However, he found major success off the court as a best-selling author, TV Host, podcaster and a philanthropist.

In a tweet, the former NBA veteran makes a heart-melting plea to fans.

Jalen Rose unfortunately lost his mother to cancer last year. The personal loss has affected him and his family deeply, but the former NBA star has managed to stay grateful for the memories he did share with his late mother.

Rose stated, ?I?m no one special but my late Mother created an original name that she was very proud of. Please tag me when you see any version of the name Jalen doing work!! Love y?all?.

The former NBA star had previously mentioned on the ?Tandon Hall Show?, ?For anybody that has ever heard the name ?Jalen?, she created it. It was my biological father?s name ?James? and my uncle ?Leonard? who took her to the hospital to give birth. So, she has created a name which is now a common name. Literally.?.

Popularised by the former NBA PLAYER Jalen Rose, the name ?Jalen? became one of the most popular African-American names in the late 1990?s and 2000?s. Today, more than 60 players in the NCAA Division 1 are named Jalen. It is the most common name in the current NCAA.

 

Jalen Rose faced a lot of hardships in his life before making a name for himself in the basketball world. His mother was his pillar of support through the tough times and he always makes it a point to mention his late mother?s contribution to his success in life.

During his tenure as a sports analyst for ESPN last year, the former NBA veteran broke down in tears in an episode as he remembered her on Mother?s Day. He had lost his mother 3 months before the episode aired and was still coping with the loss.

As his co-host comforted him, he said this, remembering his late mother, ?We fell in love with the game of basketball together. My father played in the league and to not know him, she was like, ?You are going to make it. You are going to get us out of the hood? and I said, ?I?m going to do it ma!?.

The former NBA veteran adds, ?And I did it. We did it.?. Jalen Rose came from very humble beginnings and today he is a provider for his family. He is a successful figure in the NBA community, who continues to inspire people to dare to dream big.
