The former Charlotte Hornets star faced the likes of Michael Jordan and other greats. Despite what was perceived as the ultimate disadvantage, Bogues became a dynamic force. Recently, the legend reacted to a vintage picture that depicted his fierce determination in the face of giants.

Muggsy Bogues wouldn’t be an NBA star if it wasn’t for his competitiveness. For his entire career, people laughed at the prospect of him pursuing the ‘impossible’ NBA dream. But his spirit far surpassed the murmurs of his failure. The 5’3” Hornets stalwart enjoyed a decorated 14-year career in the NBA. And it wasn’t him struggling to stay alive. He flourished as a starting point guard for the majority of the seasons.

As the floor general, he helped build a popular trio. In the Hornets’ fifth season, he helped orchestrate a run to the playoffs, even beating the formidable Boston Celtics. Bogues’ rise from the realms of impossibility made him a favorite among the fans. Children saw him as a role model, buying his jerseys in masses.

Even later in his career, Bogues’ devoted fans followed him. And his dauntless mindset never changed. He kept competing, facing off against the tall NBA players.

Recently, an old picture of him surrounded by three Rockets rose back to the surface. It proved that the 5’3” guard had earned his place as an equal. The Hornets legend himself reacted to his picture and wrote, “Highkey”. It was a sarcastic remark towards the three players towering over him. But no one can look past the poised and comfortable expression of Bogues.

 

Even today, he is among the most astonishing stories of the NBA. He is the shortest man to ever play in the NBA. A record he might own forever. However, at 5’3” it was always a tale of his unwavering belief and dedication.

Bogues’ infamous incident with Jordan

In 1995, the Chicago Bulls and the Hornets faced off in the playoffs. Charlotte needed one basket to take the lead, and they found a wide-open Muggsy Bogues. With all the space in the world, he had the chance to shoot. However, it was then that Michael Jordan launched a mental attack. Allegedly daring him to shoot while poking fun at his height, the act disturbed Bogues.

Many believe it was the moment his career took a drastic turn. However, the 5’3″ legend the rumors to be false and that Michael Jordan never insulted him in the way it is perceived.

“I heard trash talk all the time in the NBA, that was and still is a big part of the game. The rumor that MJ ruined my career with an insult is simply not true. We were competitors, we threw around insults during games but it was never personal,” he revealed in a tweet.
