The basketball community is joining hands to celebrate the 60th year since Martin Luther King Jr.’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech. With the likes of Kim Mulkey, Angel Reese, and other NBA stars included, former Houston Rockets guard Kenny Smith will be taking the lead on this initiative. Running in the front with his son KJ Smith, the two have used their creative minds to make an actual difference and impact this year.
Smith, through a non-profit called Basketball United, will look forward to maximizing charity through a set of fundraisers and awareness efforts to tackle global challenges. As a tribute to Dr. King, the charity will be used to make an impact in challenges like poverty, health, education, and inequality, which he fought for.
Kenny Smith, who is leading this, shared, “Basketball United is more than just a non-profit. It’s our way of bringing Dr. King’s dream into action. We, as basketball players, are now stepping up to make a real difference, beyond the court.“

Tigers head coach Kim Mulkey and stars Angel Reese and Flau’jae Jackson are a few who have joined this initiative. WNBA’s Kalani Brown, NBA’s Danny Green, Terrance Mann, the Holiday brothers, and retired veterans Avery Johnson and Shawn Marion are a few who have joined forces for this initiative.

Apart from fundraisers, Smith and his son have planned a video involving 60 notable members of the basketball community, who will be lending their voices to share their favorite quotes of Dr. King. The civil rights leader has shared some of the most impactful words that brought a change in society.
Former University of North Carolina star KJ Smith believes this will bring a positive change. He said, “We’re coming together not only as athletes but as a force for positive change. It’s about using our collective voice to make a real impact on the world.” Well, this new approach is the talk on the internet. Hopefully, it manages to bring out the change it promises!
