Smith threw back to that birthday party of the year recently. But it was not to gloat about his presence there. The NBA analyst is celebrating Johnson’s new ownership of the Washington Commanders NFL team with a special video on his YouTube channel. He brought up the business mogul’s 60th birthday bash to speak about how his good friend has overcome life’s curveballs to keep going strong.

However, Stephen A. Smith himself is fighting his own health battles. The famous reporter recently revealed he is working hard on managing a serious condition. During that battle, he enjoyed the best day of his life celebrating the aura of Magic Johnson.

One of Stephen A. Smith’s ‘frenemies,’ Shaquille O’Neal poked fun at the analyst’s “Little arms.” In response, Smith said that he worked hard to lose 20 pounds because he was on the verge of diabetes. Smith is proud of his improving health and his followers are applauding his efforts too.

During the time of managing his health, Smith caught a break celebrating another good friend. In 2019, he joined some of the biggest names across sports, music, and Hollywood to celebrate Magic Johnson’s 60th birthday extravaganza.

The weekend-long soiree that went down during Labor Day festivities was in St. Tropez, France. Johnson’s ride-or-die, Cookie Johnson, planned the entire party.

The couple with their kids, EJ and Elisa, spent the initial festivities at Nikki Beach. The guests at the beach party included celebrities such as Spike Lee, Chris Tucker, Boris Kodjoe, Nicole Ari Parker, Courtney B. Vance, and Angela Bassett.

Day 2 of the party was in a club featuring a performance by Doug E. Fresh. Jennifer Lopez also partied with Magic and Cookie the entire night. The final day of the party was at the French Riviera. The entire bash is said to have cost about $1 million.

The Johnsons with their kids also rounded up some of their closest friends for a party on a yacht. Stephen A. Smith was in that circle. “It’s the greatest moment of my life, it’s because of Magic Johnson,” he said in his recent YouTube video.

In the same video, he lauded Magic Johnson’s new venture as an NFL team owner. Smith believes he will bring the much-needed diversity to the NFL as the owner of the Washington Commanders.

Johnson and Smith both overcame hardships in their careers

2019 was a significant year for Johnson not only for his 60th year on the planet. It was the year he suddenly stepped down as president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Speaking about the significance of Johnson taking over the Commanders franchise, Smith revisited the legend’s 60th birthday for an important reason. In 1991, Johnson revealed he was HIV-positive. He’s since been the strongest champion to destigmatize the virus. Smith reminded everyone that Johnson has outlived all expectations since revealing his diagnosis to become a successful icon in the black community.
