Dennis Rodman is one of the most colorful and flamboyant personalities to have ever played in the NBA. A 5x time NBA champion with the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls, the forward was way ahead of his time. A shining light for the LGBTQIA+ community, Rodman has always remained vocal about equal rights. From his dyed hair to his piercings, people were not ready for Dennis Rodman in the 80s and 90s. Wearing skirts and wedding dresses, Rodman accepted a side to him years before the world could.

Dennis Rodman makes a bold claim

During an interview with Vlad TV, Dennis Rodman opened up about his sexuality and more. Reading out an excerpt from his book ‘Bad As I Wanna Be’, Vlad posed a question for Rodman. “In the book, you said something interesting. You said, ‘I am not straight, I am not gay, but I am open to things…’ Can you sort of explain that?“, he asked the Chicago Bulls legend.

Joking that he could “go into the details,” Rodman went on to explain that he is an open individual and loves people. Speaking of the gay community next, he stated, “I don’t have to be gay to love my gay community. My gay community loves me because I respect them.” Continuing to speak on the subject, Rodman made a bold claim that could potentially derail the NBA.

‘The Worm’ claimed that the NBA forced a player to retire when they found out that he was gay. He said “The NBA had some type of policy because I think 10 years ago, there was a guy who came out. And said he was gay in the NBA. They made him retire.”

Although Rodman did not reveal the name, he did mention the player was 6’11 and was pretty successful. This fits the billing of the only openly gay player to ever play in the NBA, Jason Collins. The center played in the league for 13 years before coming out in 2013. While Dennis’ comments tick various boxes, Jason Collins was not abolished by the league.
