Suns Legend, Who Was Once Obliterated by Michael Jordan’s Gamble, Drops Reality Check on Julius Edelman Viral Tale

Former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman had to face the Seattle Seahawks in 2015 for the Super Bowl championship. Well, that wasn’t his only nightmare. According to reports, Michael Jordan had placed a heavy bet on the Patriots and had also given Edelman a warning. As this tale went viral all over social media, Phoenix Suns legend Eddie Johnson decided to chime in and confirm it.

Johnson knows the best about Jordan’s gambling habits. Let’s not forget the Dan Majerle drama (more on that later). But in this story, Edelman had met Michael Jordan at a dinner, a week before the Super Bowl. He shared in an interview, “Jordan comes up to me, and he goes, ‘Hey, kid. I got a bunch of money on you. Don’t f— it up.’ “. Edelman also confirmed that it was the only thing the 6x NBA champion told him.

While this was indeed an added pressure for Edelman, it also motivated him to perform better. The wide receiver recorded an impressive 109 receiving yards in the championship game. His longest was 23 yards which was a crucial turning point for the Patriots.

The Patriots won the game 28-24 and it was Edelman’s first championship, and another successful gamble for His Airness. While this MJ story continued to go viral, Suns legend Eddie Johnson replied to the news, confirming, “He meant it too”.

In the 1993 Finals series between the Chicago Bulls and the Suns, Jordan bet $200 to Eddie Johnson that he would drop 40 points on Dan Majerle, who was believed to ‘slow down’ His Airness. Johnson who watched the game live, shared in an interview, “He starts the game and he just going nuts. I’m over there stiff, I got heat packs under my clothes… This man’s out there going crazy.”

Johnson added, “So he had about 34, he walks over to the bench and he catches the ball, looks at Tom and I, like ‘Get that money ready’.” Former Suns star Tom Chambers had also bet against MJ. Jordan went on to average 41 points in the series to win his third championship and first three-peat.
