Kevin Durant dropped 54 points in the game against the Golden State Warriors in 2014. At the time, it was his career-high-scoring game. So, to honor that game and the memory, a throwback post was made by ThrowBackHoops on X. However, Kendrick Perkins attempted to insert himself into the conversation, which turned out to be a huge mistake.

Perkins tried reminding fans that he was the one setting up screens for Durant during the game. The two were playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, his attempt was brutally thrashed as fans tried to save the moment for KD.

In the high-scoring game, Durant showed his prowess as a true scorer in the game. He shot 19-of-28 from the field and 5-of-9 from the three-point line. The game ended 127-121 as the OKC were able to cruise past the Warriors. KD topped his career high in 2022 when he got 55 points against the Atlanta Hawks. However, his 54 points are still remembered as an example of a dazzling display of pure skill.

While most fans remember the remarkable game for what KD did on the hardwood, Perkins thought that bringing himself into the conversation would be a smart thing to do. Responding to the original post, Perkins wrote, “Who is that guy setting those great screens tho!!!” However, he wouldn’t have been prepared for what was about to happen next. After his post on X, fans swarmed into the comments section and thrashed the NBA veteran, giving him a hint of reality in the process.

Fans dunk on Kendrick Perkins to protect Kevin Durant’s iconic 54-point game

Although Perkins’s post could’ve been easily looked over, the fans were in no mood to spare him.

One fan responded to his post saying that it must’ve been “Some cupcake as* dude!”

Some fans pointed out that Perkins didn’t do anything significant and none of his plans helped KD get to 54 points so he shouldn’t try to take the credit for it.

One fan wrote, “BRUH! You literally set 2 screens, which none of them were any good , and he didn’t even need them. Stop trying to insert yourself in @KDTrey5 greatness.”

It was clear that fans did not like Perkins reaching for some glory in KD’s name. One fan said that based on the clip, his contributions were insignificant.

Another fan called Perkins a washed-up center.
