Shaquille O’Neal’s $400 Million Status Couldn’t Help Him Escape the Struggles of a Common American Businessman

4x NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal opened the first Big Chicken location in Las Vegas in 2018. It was a grand opening, and the business has grown exponentially ever since. However, the start of the business was not without struggles. Despite O’Neal’s estimated $400 million net worth, he could not escape the struggles of business owners in the country.  The Big Chicken Shaq Facebook series which documented the opening of the first Big Chicken also revealed the setback.

The restaurant was planned to be opened on October 23. However, when Shaq and his team visited to check the construction progress, they were shocked to find some of the newly ordered equipment outside. When the construction manager was questioned about it, he stated that the door was not big enough for the equipment to be taken in. The Hall of Famer looked a bit disappointed and noted, “I’m not a builder or anything but if this doesn’t fit then that means somebody measured wrong.”

When the manager explained the situation, he was not ready to hear excuses and asked, “Alright, who’s fault is that?” The construction manager admitted that it was his mistake.

The 4x NBA champion and his team then went inside to learn more about the issue at hand. The contractor explained that there were two options to fix the problem: Option 1. Tear up the whole doorway and Option 2. To try and squeeze the equipment through the window.

Shaquille O’Neal is a smart delegator

The Big Aristotle looked a bit worried as this was not the only setback. His confidant listed all the issues and was not very confident that everything would be done before the opening. Even though O’Neal was a bit taken aback by the problems, he was still having fun.

The Los Angeles Lakers legend let everyone that he had to take an important call. Shaq said, “I gotta take this call. So I meet you outside and let you guys handle all the problems.” He had everyone in the first half with a straight face. The Hall of Famer then joked, “Here it is right here. I’ll see you. ‘What’s up, Rihanna? Yeah, I’m on my way.'”

Everyone in the room couldn’t contain their laughter. However, Big Diesel was not just playing around. It was not an accident that O’Neal is one of the richest former athletes ever. He knows his role. O’Neal is a massive delegator, and it has helped him massively over the years given his busy life.

The 2000 NBA MVP believes in his associates and trusts them to take care of things. He once opened up about his team but made it clear he was the ultimate decision-maker. Shaq’s style worked and the restaurant was opened as planned despite the problems.
